TRADE 018 FOR 020? OR HOLD OUT FOR GEN3?

I traded my '18 for an equally equipped '20. Couple factors that made it worthwhile for me:

1. I was able to sell my '18 for $63,000 in 1 day after listing it locally on craigslist. It had 40,000 not-so-easy miles, driven properly in the desert durning it's relatively short tenure. It had a few nice upgrades, but nothing too significant.

2. I was able to find the EXACT truck I wanted at invoice locally here in California; the delta was less than $5k.

For me, getting into a fresh truck with 0 miles was more enticing than considering the upgrades of an '18 over a '20 — they're minimal. Considering the early model issues the Gen 1 and 2 had, I intend to keep this truck at least until a slight refresh is done on the Gen3 and the hysteria and subsequent ADM's have been eschewed, and I'll likely get a new truck then. If those criteria resonate with you at all I'd say go for it. However, if you're simply trading a great condition, low-mileage '18 for a '20 based on FLV alone, yeah, not really worth it.


Was this recent? Do you mind sharing where you purchased a 2020 Raptor at invoice in California?

Well since it didn’t get mentioned..... I would wait for the gen3. I heard it will have a twin turbo 7.3 Godzilla... hahah

Some people like a new ride every couple years. I say go for it as long as you don’t take it in the shorts on the deal. And it’s wise to wait a year or even 2 on a new model anyway to work out some bugs so if you’re waiting for a Gen 3, smart to wait a bit after it comes out anyway. By then you’ll have at your ‘20 for at least 3 years and ready to move up.

just got back from michigan...mind boggling how many raptors were on the street up there.
not sure I will be able to tell the new up and coming TRX from a regular rebel though, bigger tires or maybe side decal?

if you're business/tax deducting the vehicle, you might as well go for it since you can upgrade or trade up again really at any time.

I would agree that if you get this sort of deal where the delta is only 5k, then it makes a lot of sense. I think it's going to be rather difficult to find that kind of deal right now though. Otherwise, at least wait to get details on what the Gen 3 is and when it's happening.
