Looks like the forward most part on the passenger side broke this morning. Sunroof still opens and closes and a nice surprise, it seems quieter and smoother but I still need to get it fix. The plastic accordion piece bent too but I am not worried about this.

Has anyone else had this issue and fixed it themselves? I'm not really interested in taking it to a dealer as they seem to break more than they fix.

Thoughts?

This guy has some pretty good videos on how to fix the track. This one is of removing and replacing the track. He has a separate one of removing the glass. Doesn’t seem too hard once you know how to do it.

thanks @nikhsub1

With that video I was able to get a good shot of what broke. Looks like it's critical at the moment. I may try and fix it myself. Seems pretty straight forward. looks like it's the forward most part of the trackIMG_1396.jpeg

The logical reason as to why these things fail, besides being made out of plastic, is that when the sunroof seals stick, the the motor struggles to open. When it does finally open, the result is the sunroof torquing and breaking the track - that is why the front part is broken on yours. It's kind of like that bolt you can't quite loosen, then you really get on it and then you bust your knuckle up? Yeah, same idea here. This is why it is imperative to lube the sunroof seal a couple of times a year. I'm gonna do mine today as a matter of fact.

funny enough, I lubed it 2 weeks ago. It was sticking so I finally got around to it. I suspect, like what you're saying, is that it was breaking before I got around to cleaning and lubing it. It's super quiet and smooth now which is odd. Must have been breaking or broken for awhile.

I don't know why ford in their infinite wisdom puts the cheapest plastic bits in its halo truck. If it is under warranty they will have to replace the whole mechanism to fix it which involves dropping the headliner. At some point everyones sunroof on here will break. I am having the dealership replace the glass panel next week due to the weather stripping dry rotting.

Mine is a 18 sold late in 2018. My gen 1 sunroof broke but lucky for me it broke closed. You have to be careful with these sunroofs as the heat makes the plastic bits in them very very hard. It is not a question of if they will break but when.

They actually stick and pop which is not good. I lubed mine up as well and I was having issues with my sunroof as it would not take the shade back automatically when you hit the open panel button. It works as it should now but don't know what kind of damage it could possibly do by sticking

because it passed their bell curve failure rate for warranty purposes so they don't care what trim level truck it's in. Things like this are the exact reason my next truck, raptor or not, will NOT have the sunroof

Right which is why my last f150 didn't have one but it is extremely rare to see raptors without them. It is hard to get a loaded up raptor without the roof pretty much all 802a packed raptors have them
