Finally got the tent and rack installed and took her out this past weekend for its initial trip. It was all fun and games till I got the tent cover zipper stuck on the tent canvas and like the ******** didn't bring tools to take the tent off. Long story short was a 1-night camping trip instead of 2. Was a 10 min fix at home. Live and learn.

Curious about long term review. The bed of the Raptor isn't made to handle the lateral forces of a RTT. If you are rambunctious at all over the long term the aluminum will rip. Also the rear fender reinforcement kits are a legitimate thing as the welds tend to be weak and again...latteral forces will eventually cause the rear fenders to become loose.

Watch this guys video with his chase rack. You'll some of the things I'm talking about. I'm leaning toward an dedicated off road trailer like patriot campers X3 or something similar. More feedback on the RTT option would be helpful.

It's one of the reasons I'm leaning towards an Off-Road trailer myself.

Some of the places I go barely have enough space to get the Raptor turned around so a trailer is a no go for me. That plus 6+ hour long trips just to get to areas I want to go and limited speed on hwys with trailers just seems like a lot of work, and that's not even including the costs ($10K+ for anything decent).

I don't see the video of the chase rack, can you repost the link?

He runs his truck really hard which is fine but I wonder if the sides would hold up if one just went off-roading at a normal, slower pace, while overlanding with a RTT.

I mean he jumps his truck and runs really fast in the places he travels which is why he also installed higher quality bump stops which is a must I believe when running as hard as he does.

Still might want to reinforce the sides at the rear though.

How much for the tent? Where do ya get one? How much room does it take up in the bed? Asking a lot of questions cause I think it is really COOL. I race Motocross on the weekends so my truck has bike, pressure washer and other necessities and the tent could be cheaper than hotels on my far trips

Interesting. That rack weighs quite a bit more then mine My rack is only 60 lbs roughly, and tent another 150lbs. That rack probably weights more that that alone not including all the gear mounted to it.

Also I don't plan to keep the tent on the rack full time. One other thing that's different is the Retrax is bracing the bed the entire time the rack is on, and I'm not full on sending it like those Baja guys are doing.

It would hard to get a bike in the back of the bed with this set up as the tent covers almost the entire top of the bed. You would need a trailer for your bike or one of those hitch mounts. Tent is from CVT and I bought it directly from them. Same with the Front Runner rack. The Retrax bed cover I got from @apollooptics

Look at the Leitner Rack with risers and then the tent on top, also you can get a road shower and put it across the front, search my username and you should see some photos

Did you modify that Leitner rack in the rear at the side supports?

Did you make those rear side supports?

Very nice setup.

I know our truck needs rear side supports especially if you're running hard, but what sucks is I don't think you could run those and the decked drawers.

Only way maybe a support that is mounted underneath running 12" along the width of the tailgate and then come up through a cut through slot to mount vertically at the rear inside the bed.

I'll have to really look at this but I'd hate having to cut a slot for the support to fit through, just don't think it's a doable solution at least not one anyone would care to do.

You also have to be careful when purchasing a rack depending on its usage due to its weight capabilities.

For the Leitner rack:

  • Off-Road Dynamic Weight Capacity | 400

  • On-Road Dynamic Weight Capacity | 800

  • Parked Static Weight Capacity | 1400
