HammerHead Steering Wheel in CF

A steering wheel has to come with factory heating, we then modify the resistance wires to match the original heating.
We can't take a non-heated wheel and make it work with heat.

It takes time to analyze a given steering wheel regarding the heat function, so we don't re-wire every wheel that has heat.
The Raptor steering wheel with heat, we can modify with carbon fiber and re-wire so the remaining leather will heat.

This steering wheel features fiber weave to match Ford lightning blue. This was done at the request of Ford Performance a couple of years ago, when we did a few experimental builds for them.
We developed this technique over the years to match numerous factory colors & interior leathers with fiber matches.
Of course this looks really cool in matte finish too.

We will have to give you pricing tomorrow when we are back in the office. Could you list your specific build options?
Lightning blue fiber on top? gloss or matte?
Racing stripe?
Panted fascia?
Painted shift paddles?
Heated leather option?
Anything else?

Can the paint or carbon be other colors or is this (velocity blue, I think) the only color? Or is it lightening?

The blue fiber wheel at the beginning of this post is lightning blue. As mentioned, we created that weave/color and presented it to Ford Performance, who then asked us to make some prototype examples.
We can further explain fiber options and even wood interpretations. While many people think of wood trim as belonging in luxury cars only, we can post some options that any good Cowboy would love to have in his Rig.

Well depends on pricing. I’m on the less is more side of things so for me, ideally, the wheel would look exactly stock but with carbon top and bottom. This obviously includes the red stripe at the top.

Heated Leather Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel -

In answer to some of the members inquires into a leather change and heat retention, we are exploring this option.

When we first re-wired the Raptor wheel to retain heated leather (a few years ago), we felt that it was simpler to not change out the leather, and thereby protect the resistance wires.
With more Raptor steering wheel experience, and increasing interest from customers for both heat and new leather, we are considering the feasibility of that. Can it be accomplished using the factory wiring?

Early in this thread, we posted pics of two steering wheels with the leather removed, exposing the resistance wires.
The issue is, can the factory leather be removed without displacing or damaging the resistance wires?

This is largely dependent on the adhesive the manufacturer used and how easy is it to remove the leather, without damage to the wires or the foam that the leather is glued to.

As you can see from the photos, the leather was removed without apparent damage.

So the short answer is that we are giving it a go. We should have an update within a week.

So if this works, a customer could choose either leather or alcantara with whatever thread color they want.

Another question -

Steering wheel fascia - Haven't checked recently, but Ford did not make the fascia available as a separate part from the steering wheel.
Therefore one would have to purchase the wheel to get the fascia.
Some customers are doing that, even if they own a new model.

Thanks for the update. If we sent our existing wheel to you, what would we be looking at for a turn around time?

Colored Fiber Options -

To further explain by example, we'll post some images from projects that featured custom color-matched fiber.

Is it the only color-match available? No

Matching fiber weaves to colors targets , can be tedious, but achievable. The only class of colors that don't transfer well, are pastels.

So, if you're itching for that highly personalized expression in fiber, your prayers could be answered.
