windshield protection

currently i have a cracked windshield. i'm looking to replace it soon. any recommendations if i should go aftermarket or OEM?

also, has anyone used windshield protection for your vehicle? i'm looking at clearplex as option. just wanted to see if any user on here are using something different.

I would get an OEM glass. Some aftermarket are fine, many are not. Don't use Safelite to install, find a good local mom & pop to use. A shop that cares about every install and takes care to do it right, instead of just trying to crank out as many in a day as possible. If you don't know any, ask at a good body shop.

Here's 2 ideas for protection that I think might help.

You are in good shape as long as it's a V plow so as not to pile up too much weight on one side!

I’m unlucky. I’m on my 3rd windshield, all OEM with heating element along bottom for wipers. All done by safelite and done well. Zero deductible every time.

I would go with OEM. Aftermarket seem to have issues with sound and bug stains. As for clearplex. I had it on my Lambo and it’s shit. It squirls and become difficult to look thru. As well. I still cracked the windshield with the clearplex on. I asked about warranty and I was told the warranty is only for the product not the windshield. Would of liked to know that earlier. That was a $5k hit.

I've used Safelite several time and they've done a very professional job.

They even fixed a leak that was caused by another windshield installation by another company.

I'd definitely use them again.

Windshield protection:
- The best option is Commander Montgomery Scott's transparent aluminum. Availability is currently nil, but wait for it.
- There is also a rather involved Forscan modification that activates a factory preprogrammed but inactive EM/ES forward-facing force shield. The modification is such that only LTC Samantha Carter of SG1 is capable of successfully completing the modification.
- Drive real slow. Unfortunately other vehicles in your direction of travel and cars traveling in the opposite direction can toss a rock and chip or crack your windshield regardless of your own speed.
- Bug shield - Marginally useful against bugs, useless on rocks, and incompatible with the drive real slow option.
- Leave Raptor in garage and call for an Uber. Effectiveness - 100%. Fun factor - Zero.

Bottom line: There is no such thing as windshield protection. If you drive your truck, you will eventually suffer windshield damage. If you drive off road, it'll be sooner. If you drive aggressively off-road, much sooner.
