Ford Performance Rear Diff cover

I was thinking about getting one of these are they actually a ford engineered part ? Reason I'm asking is I watched a video gale banks did on these larger capacity diff covers and found a majority didn't provide adequate lubrication of the gears he actually used clear windows so you could see what's going on inside I'm not saying that's the case with these just wondering before I buy one.

I can’t speak to this part specifically, but over the years I’ve had a lot of different FRPP parts on my cars. (Oil separators, tunes, CAI, etc.) the fit and finish is always perfect, and the engineering seems quite sound.

I do know they contract with some 3rd party vendors to produce the parts, but they are engineered to Ford specs.

And, the FRPP staff provides outstanding customer service. If you have a concern, shoot them an email before buying. I can almost guarantee you’ll get a comprehensive answer in 48 hours or less.

I’m an FRPP fan boy, but only because they’ve earned it with me over the years.

I just replaced mine a couple of weeks back and the insides look exactly the same as the stock diff cover. The oil capacity seemed the same as stock too as I used about 3.5 quarts. I doubt there is any downside to the FP diff cover that Gale found testing those other diff covers. This one literally just provides more protection and ease of maintenance which I feel these trucks should come stock with.

just ordered one...but they are all on back order....i guess i will change it out when it gets here. I am at 30k miles, so now is as good of a time as any.

This is one of those mods that I in no way need. My truck will never come close to getting used hard enough to justify buying one.....but I can almost guarantee I’ll put one on at the next service. The combination of easy future service, cool factor, and relatively low price make it way too tempting. [emoji3]

I managed to score a deal on a Spicer rear diff cover. Wasn’t surprised to see that it’s made in India. Very good quality on the paint and casting. Glad to see a magnetic drain plug too.



As I understand it, the screws are ***** and shear easily. Will reuse the original screws if they’re long enough. The gasket is good but slightly damaged. Ordered a Lube Locker anyway.

The badge rivets pulled out easily with just my finger nails. Everyone go out and check your badges especially the FP ones lol

I was planning to put a custom badge probably laser or water jet.

Could you post an image of the Lube Locker when you get it? I want to see how thick it is. Thank you!

I’ll throw a mic over it and compare the Spicer and LL.

I might have some metric stainless fasteners. If not just gonna head over to Fastenal.

I installed the Ford Perf Diff cover a few weeks ago too. I torqued to 20 to begin with and snapped the second one at 20 ftlbs. Not fun but I was able to back the bold out without tapping the hole. I would recommend staying under 20 pounds torque. I finished the rest of them off at 15 pounds. There are enough bolts that will suffice.
