Ditto. If you kick out your rear, you shouldn’t have to do a complete turn but sometimes you don’t have an opportunity to always kick it out on unfamiliar terrain. If you pre-ran the trail, sure.

My comment was in regards to shift time between paddle and trans - meaning how soon does it shift once input is made via a paddle. No chance in hell the raptor will shift as quick as PDK/DSG etc.

not really. If I'm mid-turn and I need to get the right gear, while attempting to counter-steer to the right, I'd need a third arm to shift with the gear selector on the console.

The "stability control" that you can't turn off ( i'm not talking about traction control or advancetrac) likes to cut power randomly mid-turn when you're driving these trucks at 8/10ths. When that happens and I'm already mid-slide, now needing to downshift,there is no way I'm going to hit that little stupid gear shifter button, no matter how much I'd like to. .

Now, Keep in mind, I'm the idiot that is trying to make a "street truck" do race truck things, So I completely understand that my needs are not mirrored by 99% of raptor owners.

I should be driving a center mount prerunner, but I like my raptor, with all of its quirks.

you still need to countersteer.

maybe yall are undiscovered, next gene robbie gordons, but I keep two hands on the wheel in a racecar/racetruck based on how I learned to drive. You should NEVER turn the wheel to the right with your left hand, and you should never turn the car left with your right hand. You pull the wheel "down" with your right hand to turn right and with your left hand to turn left.

It is much much faster.

Also, When I'm sliding my truck while doing 60mph + and I need to countersteer full lock to change direction, you're damn straight that I have both hands on the wheel and one foot on each pedal.

Gotcha. I ask because I don’t race other than normal dunking around on gravel roads. I’ve always driven with one hand but I’ve never been to the edge of envelope and need to manipulate the gears like you describe.

In short, I ask out of complete ignorance.

all good. I'm no pro driver, it is just an interesting skill for me to learn. Making this big ass heavy bitch of a truck pirouette is really fun.

I have friends and acquaintances that are legitimate professional race drivers. The things that they can make vehicles do constantly boggles my mind.

They’re fun if you’re really into driving at the time- offroad in less technical areas like open fields/sand dunes would be fun & around town it is a cool feature to really feel ALL the power in a gear & keep those turbos spooling

my truck is tuned now tho so may be different I’m sure it grabs gears quicker

I feel like on downshifts sorts “blipping” the throttle or just ever so lightly resting your foot on it feeding it a tiny bit of gas @ the time of downshift helps for a smoother transition

i use them in baja mode when speeding in dirt. They respond fairly OK. you arent getting ferrari shift speeds but theyre OK for the purpose of the truck

Like I said, I am going to give the paddles a try when I off-road, it has just been habit to use SelectShift on the console. I am glad that Ford decided to keep that there instead of only on the paddles.

You are not alone! ken block and I also use the button on the shifter. Lol see him do so in the motor trend video out in the desert with johnny Lieberman in a clone of my 2017 avalanche grey scab
