I never bothered getting into it with them too much because I figured, what was the point, it was done.

Sounds like you should just take your own advice and move on. Take your truck to a different dealership if another one is around. Free oil changes/inspections is pretty common and not some scam imo, but if you are just going to be annoyed every time you go in to the dealer not worth it.

Agree with others that before the survey is the time to negotiate, but a bad experience is what it is. If you want to be bribed for a better survey that's up to you. People that work at the dealership choose to work there and they created/agreed to this silly survey system so no I don't feel bad for them. Bombing them can be rude but a one is the same as anything that's not a perfect score as far as metrics are concerned.

You hav e an opportunity. Take the deal or, give sales another shot on a soon to be purchase. The fact f that they’re talking says they at least tacitly care. Sales and service are two separate departments. If it were me I’d ask what they’re willing to do for my wife’s next ride.

Here’s the problem with that survey. It’s called CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index), and it’s a tool the manufacturer uses to screw the dealer out of money.

A service writer can have an excellent month in sales, but if he gets one bad CSI score, he loses his bonus that could add up to thousands. Same for sales. It’s a really ****** scheme, but unfortunately, it’s what they do.

I do not believe in bombing surveys because it affects the livelihood of the dealership employees so directly. A car dealership is already a fantastically miserable place to make a living, so I try not to make it worse.

For future reference, you are better off getting a hold of the dealer principal and working out the situation directly while informing them you are doing so to avoid a survey situation. They will be much more willing to work with you to correct the situation.

it’s unfortunate you had such a bad experience. What happened?

To be real clear, I've been in sales of one sort or another my whole life, at all different levels. I tend to be very understanding with people I deal with whenever possible because, I get it, shit happens. I'm not expecting rose petals to be sprinkled in front of me when I walk in. I also have worked at 2 different car dealerships when I first got out of school. Ordering the truck was super easy and a very nice experience, I was impressed. I'll just hit the lowlights for the delivery. Dealer is short staffed from the Chinese virus restrictions so I get the sale manager. Before I signed anything, I see the hood is making metal on metal contact at front corner with the fender. Right side door panel gaps are very wonky. I'm told no problem, bring it back tomorrow and we'll give you a loaner and have the body shop realign things. A very close friends brother is a back office manager at the place so I trusted them. I had requested they not wax my truck because I was taking it to a detailer to get ceramic coated. It's late in the day, I take the truck, go for a nice drive, put it in my garage.

Next morning I take it back and tell the sales manager I also found a light 16" scratch on the plastic trim piece on the top of the tailgate. He saw a small spot of dried wax on the tailgate and he pointed it out and accused me of having scratched it “While I was waxing it”. He told me he couldn't have missed that scratch because he "personally" went over the truck and would have seen it. He missed the metal on metal fender to hood, and door gaps that were really bad, but he would never have missed a small scratch. OK, right. It came back from the body shop and it was well aligned, but when I opened the hood I see bare metal on the hood corner and fender where it had been making contact. You can only see it when the hood is open. When I pointed it out, the sales manager told me I should go buy some touch up paint! Nobody would waste their time to show me a single thing on the truck or how anything works. I was told, "There are some good videos I can watch on YouTube to learn about the truck". I could do a few more paragraphs, but you get the idea.

I thought you were going to say ask him if I could ride his wife!

@Oldfart If there’s a chance you may return to that dealer for any future purchase or warranty service, then you should take advantage of the GM’s effort to make you happy.

That said, you will likely be required to “adjust” your previous survey to improve their result.

“I” would NEVER accept anything that involved some future “service” to be performed by the goons at the dealer. Think about it a bit and try to come up with something tangible you want for the truck. In one instance I negotiated for a full set of shop manuals/wiring diagrams for the vehicle. Maybe you could get some accessory or similar. If you ask for something the dealer can get from Ford will make it better.

That's something I had in the back of my mind. That's why I figured I'd post here and get some good feedback. My initial impulse was to go postal in there, but it wouldn't help or change anything. The only accessory I haven't picked up yet is I was looking at one of those undercover swing storage boxes, I know Ford has them under their name also.

From what I've read, those swing arm boxes rip holes in the bed where they are attached. Neat idea though, and I have no first hand experience. Maybe they are great.
Basically, if you exchange goods/services for changing your opinion of the buying experience, you are letting the problem slide and selling out. They shit the bed, let them sleep in it. If what the other guys are saying is true, this is one of those rare times in life to have your voice heard.
But, free stuff is cool too. I'm torn.

You last line is me! Part of me is full on, "Go fu** yourself!" :biggun: to the dealer, and the other is being a little more practical and thinking, "Hey! Free stuff!" :Big Laugh:
