I'm getting ready to purchase a Raptor and doing a lot of research. One thing that people complain about is the internal rattle, especially with pano roof. Is this normal on all raptors? i have a GMC sierra 1500 Denali and after 10k miles the thing starting creaking inside the cabin.

thank you

The moonroof is known to make noise and break. The breakage repair is a day if the dealer has the parts and has a tech qualified to service it. If either or both are not true, it’s a several day repair. If out of warranty it’s a few hundred in parts, just under a grand to have a private shop fix, and about $1800 dealer repaired.

noise complaints frequently result in full track/mechanism replacement. Sometimes it fixes the rattling and sometimes not.

I know I found on my cars that I would use the moonroof off & on for a few months and then go a really long time and never use it. Between that fact, and some issues owners were having with the pano roof I decided to not put one on my order. I also found on my new truck that if you want fresh air, opening the back sliding window and opening the front windows even part way pulls an amazing amount of air through the truck.

How badly do you want the moonroof? My wife commented that she opened the one in her Acura twice in the ten years she owned it. Once when it was new and once before she sold it to see if it still worked. But that's just us, living in a place where the humidity is low and temperature is ideal for minutes at a time. In the 47 years that I've been driving pickups, I've wanted a moonroof ... let's see ... not once. Maybe growing up with 2/65 air conditioning in an region where most summer days go above 100 did that to me. Maybe spending lots of time out in the sun and wind already makes me appreciate cool and quiet. Dunno. Have you had a moonroof before? Did you use it?

The back window is FANTASTIC! What I really love is that even with my cap, I can just crack that back window a little at 75 mph and get a nice breeze circulating so I don't have to run the fan all the time. That way, even at highway speeds, I can still talk in the cab (i.e. it's a lot quieter than having door window cracked)

I also did a ton of research and debating whether or not to get the moonroof before I purchased. I found two identicle trucks one with and one without the moonroof. I chose the one with it because I liked having the option to use the moonroof/visor. I actually use the roof/visor a ton and am super happy with it after 5k miles.

Like everything, the better you take care of it the better it'll treat you. The consensus across multiple threads is:

-Wash it regularly, especially in dusty climates
-Lube the tracks with a silicone based grease
-Use it 1-2x per week to ensure it doesn't get siezed
-If you're in a climate with extreme temperature changes (Northeast/Canada/Midwest etc) it is more likely to rattle
