GEN 2 Debating on trading high mile raptor or keeping ?

From 99k to 101k your truck will depreciate 10 grand or more. Ask me how I know? I had a Gen 1 and that was the trade out difference from 93 thousand miles to 105 thousand miles. Ford are domestic vehicles, like it or not or even if it is not what you want to hear? Ford F150s depreciate probably greater than any other truck on the road today. To give you an idea, and some of the Gen 1 members on this forum figured it out, but generally it is 10 thousand dollars per 10 thousand miles you put on the truck.

You can live in LALA land all you want but it is a fact that Ford depreciates greater than any other truck or vehicle in America today. They will depreciate like crazy to a point and then come back up like the old Broncos and Mustangs. It is the main reason I would not buy a new F150 except for the diesel one I bought as a 2018 holdover in early 2019. I owned a 2008 Subaru STI in 2011 put 2-3 thousand miles on it and sold it for what I paid for it several years later. For whatever reason foreign cars/ vehicles hold their values better than other domestic vehicle makers. Could be the parts they use are better, could be that everything still works on them 20 years and 200 thousand miles later. Do not know, but you all are going to lose 10-20-30 grand on your trucks when you trade them in sometimes within 18-24 months of buying them. I guess you could call it disposable income.

You are referencing one-off specialty models. It has nothing to do with being “foreign or domestic”, it has to do with demand for a particular model. You may have low depreciation with a Mitsubishi Evo, but you can’t give away an Outlander or Mirage; they’re worth nothing. Same with Nissan, the GT-R is a specialty car that retains relatively high value, but the rest of their products are near worst in class.

Since you’re referring only to specialty vehicles, why don’t we bring up the 05-06 Ford GT? You know, the “brand that depreciates faster than any other vehicle today”? Those vehicles are worth hundreds of thousands more than they cost new.

How about the Jeep Wrangler, another domestic vehicle that has the highest resale value in the entire industry? Raptors hold their value extremely well, as do Ford trucks in general.

You clearly have some anti-domestic and anti Ford sentiment, everything you posted in baseless, anecdotal evidence. All you seem to do is post negative comments, do you even own a Raptor?

Who said anything about German cars? I am talking all things from Japan. The EVOs, STIs, GTRs, and Type Rs all hold their value extremely well. Just this past year I saw an early Integra Type R go for 80+ thousand dollars. Granted you or me would not pay that for an old arse Acura but someone did and someone got paid off a car which was not that well sought after 20+ years ago.

Once again, every model you mention there is a low production specialty vehicle. You don’t seem to have a clue that those don’t represent all models; they’re one-offs. My Terminator Cobra is 16 years old and has retained 70% of it’s value. Impossible you claim, it’s a Ford!

Since you quoted me twice I will not bother quoting you once. I have owned several F150s (3 in the past 7 years). You want me to break it down for you? Ford uses cheap plastic bits (mostly sourced from a low cost producer) prone to failure in their HVAC systems, and their sun roof setups. I like a lot of Gen 1 owners experienced the failed sunroof bracket. I also experienced the broken HVAC motor prone to break in these vehicles. GTRs, STIs, EVOs are not one offs they are low production specialty vehicles but definitely not one offs. The Ford GT I did not mention because it is a hand build super car and not really a production model. The GT is similar to the Mclarens and high end Lambos and such.

Basically, with the Ford F150 you are experiencing the frame and the toughness of the chassis. They really are a superior design and I equate the frame to railroad ties. However, that does not mean it is the be all end all. I have owned three F150s and lost a total of 30 grand in depreciation on F150s in the two I have owned for 5 years of ownership. Not to mention buying my 2018 with 20 thousand miles on it for the mid 50s which someone I am sure lost 20 grand when they walked away from it. Right now this very moment all used cars/ Trucks are bringing crap money. Everyone on here wants to talk about how their 75 thousand dollar truck will be worth 50 or 60 grand with 40 thousand miles on it, then they are out of your relative minds. I have owned over 100s of cars and trucks in my lifetime and the ones I have usually broke even on or made money on have been Japanese foreign vehicle brands. Granted I believe the tide has turned somewhat but dealers still do not want to mess with an old Ford trade in when they could get a Toyota, Mazda, Subaru, or Honda. Those brands all have loyal customers and the perceived value of the brand is a lot higher.

With that said, I hate foreign made trucks. I have previously owned a Toyota Tacoma and almost went with a Tundra this time but common sense and my love of the F150 made me get another one. I however, know what to expect from it. Use it, love it, and drive it but do not think that it will not depreciate and at the end of the day the F150s and even Raptors are a dime a dozen. The dealers know this which is one reason I believe that they give crap money for the F150 at trade in times. The Raptor will hold its value better than any other F150, and I will give you all that but when you go to trade it in or sell it the market is only finite and you will find that no one values it more than you do. They are in the business of making money and the dealerships will take all they can. Have fun with your truck and the brand but if I like most on here did not need it for work or have a specific use for it then we would not own them.

I'd love to see the data on your claimed "low cost producer", as well as your "broken HVAC motors". Never heard of an HVAC "motor". Sounds more like speculation; not facts. All of the vehicles you referenced were low volume specialty vehicles, and not indicative of the resale values on the manufacturers mainstream products.

Nobody is saying any single truck is the "end all be all". However, your entire argument is meaningless, because it's entirely anecdotal. You claim you lost $30,000 on 3 F-150's...so, $10,000 each? That is not relevant to a depreciation percentage. Why would you buy a vehicle only to trade it in so quickly if you're worried about depreciation? Your story isn't making sense.

You're owned "100's of cars"? What are you, Jay Leno? And you claim to have "made money on Japanese foreign vehicle brands"? Do you understand that your claims are ridiculous? The hole in your logic is quite obvious; you're claiming that dealers don't want to "mess" with an "old Ford trade in", yet said vehicles retail for some of the highest prices in used vehicle transactions. Are you claiming that dealers hate low balling trades and selling them for a huge profit? That is what you appear to be stating.

Your comments would contradict that statement. It sounds like you may have been taken advantage of by a dealership, which is not the fault of the vehicle. Raptors are nowhere near a "dime a dozen", in fact even Gen 1's with high mileage are selling in the $40K range. You seem to be particularly spiteful for some reason, and your anecdotal evidence and experience seems to be at the bottom of it. I'm sorry to hear you got screwed by a dealership, but that doesn't mean your experience represents everyone else's.

You just proved that you have zero idea of what you are talking about and just being argumentative. I didn't get taken advantage of by any dealership, im happy with the deal I got on my 18 especially with the 5 grand worth of accessories it came with.

Take your slappy happy self to Autotrader and look at all those high mileage gen 1s in the 18-25 grand range and get back to me, lol

18-25 grand but you do realize that more than likely someone will have to finance that old of a vehicle which is not easy at times
