Having a ham radio (UHV/VHF) radio in the Raptor is for two purposes...

1. To go on most any of the "Raptor runs" that are out there, whether the ones that TRR puts on (Baja, Texas, so forth) or the ones of the Raptor Offroad group, or any others, you have to have one in the truck, and not a hand-held either. The reason is for safety. If you're a hundred miles into the Nevada desert and you wreck or break something, you have to be able to communicate. Most of the groups I've seen require a 50 watt radio, minimum.

2. I'm a bit of a prepper, and ham radio is a necessity for that. In our current SHTF situation, ham radio doesn't mean much, but I live in Washington and if we get the mega 9.0 earthquake everyone says is coming it will be real important then.

I really need to get off my ass and get my ham license....

Makes sense. So the Raptor runs use Ham frequencies to communicate or are there others that don't require a license?

I'm not sure they require a license, but I know you have to have the radio....

I actually already have the radio installed in my truck. Super slick, the faceplate is up on the front of the sunglass holder, and the unit is under my seat. Antenna lead is behind the rear driver side seat waiting on a permanent antenna mount. Right now just have the magnet mount antenna. I need to get a video up on this...

Yes you do. What brand/model radio do you have?

The technician license is real easy (I got mine KF7QFH). A lot of online practice exams are available.

There I some around 60-70, but im usually going faster than that. Plus I usually have the stereo cranked LOL...

Simple drone fix... Hemholtz Resinator (J-Pipe)
There is a formula to calculate the exact frequency you are trying to cancel, but this simple capped of j-pipe does the trick. I was aiming for 1900 rpm quiet zone and got it. I would have to go measure mine to know where I ended up, but I think it was 27.5 inches long x 2.5 inch dia.
To give it some stability, I tacked the closed end onto the hanger.

I should have the antenna install video up this afternoon, it’s really slick.

Hey Canuck that’s really cool! I like that it’s compact and can fit up inside the frame rails.
