Question on new truck harsh shifting and code then P0420

Those are aftermarket cats. That’s why you’re getting P0420/P0430.
So I'm pretty sure when the Ford dealer re-calibrated the PCM/TCM they must have overwritten a custom map that was in the truck? I checked the work order and it says they reclaibrated the PCM and TCM with TSB 18-2079. I don't have a tuner.
Sorry I'm new to this but what are my options? Get a tuner with a tune that turns off cat messages? guess I can start researching that but have no idea where to begin. I do use a Power Vision flash tuner on my motorcycles so understand flashing tunes but I'm new to Raptor's.

Either way the shifting is much improved. Now if I can just get the truck running well with no codes. I appreciate all the help/suggestions getting my truck where it needs to be.

From what I can tell the truck has the MagnaFlow Ford F-150 Raptor Street Series Cat-Back Performance Exhaust System plus the down headers with aftermarket cats (maybe Magnaflow?). It also has a Whipple ecoboost CAI. Must have had a custom map - is that still there in the ECM? Not sure what else yet....

I don’t think you will find a plug-and-play tuner that will turn off catalyst efficiency codes, since that’s a violation of federal emissions law. You would have to find a custom tuner that either dyno tunes the truck or does mail order tunes.

Thanks I texted the salesman and he contacted the previous owner. He found out the folks who dynoed the truck before and I have reached out them. Maybe I can find out what tuner was used and get the tune. I wouldn't mind having the tune but not the previous shifting. I really appreciate the help. I'm learning quite a bit about my new truck and Raptors in general on here.

Just talked with the shop who tuned the truck for previous owner. They will reapply the tune after modifying the shifting for me. Only downside is there is a two week wait for appt. owner of the shop is a real stand up guy and will do for a minimal charge since he already tuned the truck. Thanks for all the help understanding what was going on.

Update...
I took Friday off last week and drove 1.5 hours to the Dyno shop that tuned the truck. After this adventure with the codes, I found I have the MagnaFlow Cat-Back Exhaust System MF Series 3" Dual Split Rear Exit Black With 5" Tips, Whipple Large Mega Cooler and CAI, Stainless Works catted Down pipes and a full dyno tune by a very reputable shop in the Carolinas. Everything seems to be working well. The Dyno shop could see where the dealer updated the shifting via the TSB to the 2018 shift programming and they put my tune back. Truck performs extremely well and the dyno numbers look really good. I don't chase numbers but this truck performs extremely well. Thanks for all the help understanding what was going on with my truck.

If the previous owner had installed a tune, especially a cheap plug-and-play one, it may have resulted in over fueling and damage to the catalytic converter. The easiest (cheap) way to keep a turbocharged engine alive at increased power/boost levels is to run it overly rich. Rich A/F mixtures result in an incomplete fuel burn which must then be dealt with by the catalyst. This causes catalyst temperatures to exceed threshold, resulting in catalyst damage and efficiency DTCs such as P0420.


Hey, Do you have a personal opinion on getting a professional tune on the Raptor?

I mean, if there was a gun to your head and you absolutely had to add substantial power gains to your Raptor, how would you do it the right way?

so maybe, bigger turbos, ****, injectors, fuel pump(s) (does this thing have high and low pressure pumps?).

Not that I'm looking, but maybe in 6 years I'll get bored and want to throw some coin at power gains.
