Is there a significant difference between an upgraded stock location IC and a relocated IC with a stage 2 tune?

Bigger core, so better cooling. But stock is so bad that even a stock replacement Front Mount Intercooler is a huge upgrade

I think we can all agree that the stock IC is not good and that a bigger core IC in the stock location is better. What is your opinion between a bigger core IC in the stock location compared to a FMIC?

I spoke to guy who runs a bigger core IC in the stock location and he has a buddy who has FMIC and he says the bigger core in the stock location is better. He said the FMIC gets hot sitting next to the radiator.

You have seen a lot of logs in every scenario so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The FMIC will allow one to get bigger power gains and better cooling, but you run the risk of running into heating problems because you are inhibiting air flow. I have talked to several people, who have ran into heating problems and told me that if I can, to stick with an upgraded stock intercooler rather than a FMIC—such a choice really hinges on the type of bumper that you go with.

I live in Florida where the humidity and heat are always sky high, and I do quite a bit of off-roading, so I am sticking with an upgraded intercooler for the stock location. I am leaning towards the Wagner set up since it fits the factory shroud snuggly and maintains air flow into the IC at speed.

The bigger the core the better. I have some data against a stock location, similar environment and bigger Front Mount Intercooler wins. Stock IC is just so horrible that an upgraded stock location is 10x better!

I am not sure you answered my question so let me ask again.

which is better:

- aftermarket bigger core in the oem location
OR
- FMIC

Oh I'm sorry. A bigger intercooler (quality core) is better. Help dissipate heat more. So a Front Mount Intercooler would be better.
