I speculate we’ll end up with two Raptors. A plain jane Raptor with a ecoboost hybrid like the one in the Lincoln Aviator (which makes 500hp) and then MAYBE a Raptor R with the Mustang GT500’s V8. That’ll let Ford keep the Raptor’s starting price at the mid $50K range while a Raptor R can go nuts and cross into the $100K range.
This is what I’m expecting.

I think the rebel will disappoint. Based on the spy shots of the mule, looks like they dropped the side exhaust and the vented hood. It almost looks like they are just jamming a bigger engine in and adding some bolt ons with a coil rear. The more I read about it the less I think it will make an impact.

Should just have best of both worlds and have a TT V8 :)

Now that is something I can get behind. As a ford fanboy, I'm actually surprised Ford hasnt done something like this yet. I'm sure a lot of engineering went into the 3.5 and I'm wondering what the influencing factor was to add forced induction on a v6 as opposed to a v8. I'm sure most of it is with weight and less moving parts but hard to say for sure. Either way I cant complain about having 70% of the same motor as the ford gt

The Gen 2 Raptor is a good truck in spite of its undersized and overstressed passenger car motor, not because of it. If it had the low end torque and power potential I like in a 3 ton vehicle, I wouldn't care what it sounds like. But alas, it does not.

Now, if I had known how many shops were going to start doing Gen 2 Coyote swaps, I would have bought one a long time ago... but at this point I'm too far down the road building my Gen 1 to take on another project of that magnitude. I don't need another vehicle that only I or a shop I trust can work on. But a new Raptor with a V8 from the factory would be hard to pass up. Make a really nice daily that does double duty for fun weekends.

Just my two cents.

You are entitled to your "two cents", but not when it's factually incorrect.

The 3.5 EcoBoost is not an "undersized passenger car" motor. It fact, it's never even been used in ANY passenger car. The Gen 2 Ecoboost was developed from the ground up as a clean sheet design, and it's only been used in Ford trucks and the Ford GT supercar. The bank angle is 60 degrees because it provides the best balance in a V6; the fact that it allows additional room for the turbochargers on either side is just a benefit.

In terms of low end torque, the 3.5 HO not only produces more low end torque than the 6.2, but produces higher peak torque at a lower RPM as well. The 3.5 makes 76 lb-ft more torque than the 6.2 at 1,000 less RPM. So not sure where you're coming up with your baseless torque argument, because the facts contradict everything you're claiming.

In regards to your baseless claim that the 3.5 HO is "overstressed"...the 5.2 Predator (GT500) engine makes 146 HP/L...the 3.5 HO makes 128 HP/L...you let your personal bias get in the way of the facts.

As far as Gen 2 Coyote swaps...why would anyone swap in an engine that makes hundreds of lb-ft less torque at low RPM for a 10HP gain and much lower fuel economy? Makes no sense. Oh, that's right...sound

- For reference...I also own a Supercharged V8, so I have plenty of perspective in regards to the differences between both powertrains. I am no V6 "fanboy", but I'm also not a blind to the facts.

The trouble with the Ford GT comparison is that it's a lot of the important parts that are missing. Crank, rods, pistons, dry sump oiling system, turbos, etc. That's why the passenger car version has a much lower power ceiling. It would actually be pretty cool if Ford would put the actual GT motor into the Raptor to answer the TRX but we just don't know if that is a realistic option. Those engines are probably hand built at Roush-Yates. We know the actual Le Mans versions were. Those reportedly cost ~ $100k each and had custom billet blocks and cranks.

Easiest, cheapest, and most powerful answer is obviously just to put the GT500 motor in the truck.

Since you are so confident that the GT engine is completely different from the Raptor, please - post the part numbers for both and stop making assumptions. We'll wait.

Once again...there is no "passenger car" version of the GT or Raptor engine.

You left out low end torque, reliability, durability, and power potential.

I know, I know, we have a lot of guys with Napoleon complexes around here. But in reality, when you take the ego out of it, bigger is better.

1. 3.5 HO has more low end torque.
2. Reliability and durability? Please, provide the statistics.
3. Power potential? Maybe you're never heard of RMB Motor Works @RMB_Ryan. He's building the Gen 2's with power that would make your head spin.

Ryan has confirmed the passenger car version in the Raptor is only safe to 600 crank horsepower.

Haven't seen one of his Gen 2s dyno yet. Be interesting if he is able to make big numbers. He will be the first. As it stands, the "world's fastest" Ecoboost powered F-150 runs mid 11s. Coyote trucks are in the high 8s.

Different sport entirely.

Once again...there IS NO passenger car version of a GEN 2. And no Gen 1 was ever used in a Raptor. So you're argument is null and void.
