My 17 and 18 both had the white smoke issue. I could not idle more than 20-30 mins without driving off and it looking like I was fogging the neighborhood for mosquitoes. I started a thread on the white smoke, but instead of getting it fixed, I traded them in each time. Lots of posts on that thread about the issue.
I drive a lot for work. 60-80k per year. I trade at least yearly so I don't have time to have my truck in the shop. I switched back to a F250 for a while but the ride kills my back no matter how much I spend on suspension.
Long story short, 8 weeks and 12k miles into the 2020, it has zero issues. And no white smoke issues either. I just think they finally have all the bugs out.

Save your money and buy the extended warranty for 1/10th the price you'd lose on a trade.

Own my own businesses and don't lose much on trade, but thanks for the advice. Plus, I like being in a new truck pretty often. My money, my choices.

Umm.... okay. Did you miss the part where the OP was asking for other's thoughts on trading in his 17 for a 20? I was giving my thoughts to the OP. I didn't direct my opinion and thoughts toward the west texan that owns his own business and don't lose much on a trade...

Well... I just traded my 2014 6.2 in and got a heck of a deal. WOW, I'm impressed with the gen 2. Apples to oranges compared to the guy with the '17, BUT there ARE deals to be made. I never thought I'd be able to pull off a BNIB Raptor for under MSRP in my area.

As for the OP... Do what I did. I went into the dealer with NO expectations. I dared them to make me an offer that I could not refuse. To my surprise, they did. Go see what you can pull off. You might be surprised, you might not. Maybe you get a new ride, maybe not. Only YOU will know if it makes sense.

Once the new truck bug bites it’s hard to shake!
