That’s the gear lockout feature. When you hit the paddle or gear selector +/-, the gear display goes away. tap either one again and it comes back. if you double tap -, you lock out 10th gear. tap - again, you lock out 9th gear, and so on. It doesn’t do this as quickly as manual mode shifting.

The gear display disappearing is a common complaint among new users.
I JUST found this out the hard way last weekend.

This is good stuff. I was aware of the gear lockout feature, but hadn’t really thought through a scenario where it would be useful.

If you press the manual shift button on shifter the gear display will stay on. sometimes we drive with one hand on the shifter or accidentally press it while going from park to drive or reverse.

I bought a new 2019 Raptor, Magnetic with the 802a package, Raptor Technology package and a couple of other typical options. I've had both knees replaced in the last six months, so working on it has been slow. I ordered a Bakflip MX4 toneau cover, AMP running boards, under seat storage box and tow bar baseplates as it will be towed behind my motor home.

So that's my story and here is why I posted. I've found in the past that there are many little items one person may discover about their vehicle that others never knew. As a example....Even though many know this, there is a button on the left rear bed light that allows you to turn on the bed lights from the tailgate.

So as a new owner, I'm looking for secrets about the Raptor that you won't find in the manual.
Did not know about the button for the tailgate light. thanks for that. the ford dealer delivery department doesn't go over all the features.

You can turn your radio on without turning the truck on or putting it into accessory mode, as long as the key is in the truck, just hit the power button on the radio.

The key doesn’t have to be in the truck for the radio to work. Whenever I take the wife’s car to the dealership for an oil change I just pick one of the new trucks that has a good view of the quick lane and sit in an listen to the radio. Discovered this a couple of years ago.

If your keyfob dies and the truck gives you the “no key detected” there’s a spot in the front cup holder where you put your fob to start the truck. Just lift the little plastic thingy in the bottom of the cup holder and there it is.
