Spinning dowel across top of a 5 gallon bucket filled w/ water (or vinegar for more painful quick death) use a piece of trim board or something as a “ramp” & peanut butter placed on ramp w/ a big blob in middle of the spinning dowel. Let the annihilation ensue

I noticed a few rat droppings in my engine bay the other day when I opened up the hood to top up the battery. So I ordered some glue traps and while I was waiting for them to arrive I applied peppermint oil and put Bounce drier sheets in the engine bay. That didn’t deter the little bastard, but the next day I taped the glue traps to the top of the battery.

I made the mistake of ordering the small traps for mice, so I had to gang three of them up to cover the battery. I didn’t bait them because the last thing I wanted to do was encourage more rodents to come into my engine bay. I just wanted to get the one that was already going in there anyway. In 20 years at this house, I have never had a rodent go into an engine bay, so although I’m sure there are plenty of other rodents around these parts, this does not seem to be a very common occurrence, thankfully. I have read that rodents are drawn to the battery because somehow they sense water in there. There were droppings on top of the battery, so I knew he was going on there.

Anyway, that worked great. Rat dispatched and no wiring or other damage in the bay. It appears there was quite a struggle, and he ultimately freed himself from the trap, but was found dead under the truck in the morning. I guess the struggle killed him.

I've had mice, rats and squirrels in my vehicles....Mice totally ruined wiring in my BMW and were starting to get into my Corvette....I had read Fabric Softner sprayed on carpets, etc. would keep them away, tried it and have not had one since.
@AnacortesTom ...Moth Balls as my fellow WA. member stated also have worked for me.
I've also had luck with Rat Blocks that have a hole thru them, just wire 3-4 in the Engine Comp. where they can sit and nibble....no mess,no fuss, and if your lucky they will leave with a mouthful to bring back to the nest for the young ones..!! This also works for the Squirrels...but have good luck also by placing a Live-Catch Cage near the front of truck with some peanuts in in a bowl....
And dont worry, dont have a gun (WHY NOT??LOL)...just fill a trash can with water and send him to Davy Jones Locker...
Been trying to get the GF to skin and cook them, but she says I'm pushing my luck..Woman.>!!

Used this method and would get a half dozen field mice a week in my garage when I lived in Cali.
