New Raptor - Hesitating between low gears

My 19 did it for the first couple weeks then it cleared up....now just started again a few days ago. I'm at 16,000 miles now. Junk.

I agree. Junk and needless to have this many gears.

I have owned 3 brand new vehicles with 8+ speed transmissions (2015 Lexus, 2017 Dodge and 2019 Ford). They are all jerky and clunky in "sport" mode. The Dodge and Ford both clunk in "normal" mode at specific gears when decelerating, but not all the time. The Dodge clunked when I decelerated at 5th and 4th and the Ford clunks at 4th and 3rd.

Since they all seem to do it, "clunky and crappy transmission shifting" is now the new "super smooth ECT transmissions!".

Like someone said before on this forum: if we keep buying the crap, they'll keep making it.

I too have the "cold acceleration issue". Sept 2019 build. I thought I imagined it until it happened again. Trans/engine after sitting for a few hours, drive off in "normal" mode then the truck seems to rapidly slow while my body continues forward for a second then continues on. Only does it once when cool/cold.

I noticed it once in the morning after the truck sat over night. It did it after I let the car warm up for a few minutes that morning (I remote started it thinking "hey warming it up for a few will be good!"). When I don't let it warm up (as in, I just start it, let the idle drop and go) it doesn't seem to do it.

I've just accepted the fact that this new level of poor performance has to be "learned" by us owners and we need to figure out how to work around these issues and live with them.

Isn't it funny? For all of you who have worked on cars and trucks through the decades like I have: we went from mechanical carbs and pumps to make the vehicle beautifully operate when cold to digital computer CRAP that... wait for it... STILL RUNS LIKE SH*T when cold!

Amazing...

Did anyone find a solution to this? Mine has done the stall / stutter as well. First thing in the morning it seems on cold days. It happens on the 1st or 2nd shift under light acceleration. Took it in once had the tranny re-flashed and it went away for about 2 weeks (the re-flash did solve the clunk shifting from park to R or D and the clunky downshift) Its headed back to the dealer tomorrow to see if its a PCM issue vs a tranny issue..

I’ve got a ‘17 with 24k miles on it.
It has done this “stall” issue ever since new. Only when engine is cold and easing out of the driveway in the morning. I get whiplash when it happens...lol

Currently have about ~1,100 miles on my Raptor. Not sure what the official auto term is here, but my truck kind of hesitates / stalls / stutters going between gear 3 and 4 when I first start driving in the morning.

Is this normal on a new truck? Feel like I've had this issue on other trucks in the past and it just normally resolves itself, but I'm not really sure.

It's normal. My '19 does it as well. It's part of the transmission's cold start strategy, and it's not detrimental to anything. It simply feels like a slight hesitation between gears, nothing like a stall or shudder. Mine does it one time when cold, and then it's smooth after that.

Junk? Get a grip and stop being so dramatic. It's a normal characteristic of the 10R operating strategy when the fluid is cold. As soon as the fluid temp comes up it goes away, and it's barely noticeable to begin with.

This.

Mine does exactly the same thing. Only when the trans is cold and under light power. If the trans is cold and I’m in 3rd and give it a bit of gas it just skips 4th and goes to 5th with no hesitation.

All you seem to do is complain in every post you make. I don't like to call people out, but it seriously gets old after a while.

You claim it's "needless" to have 10 speeds. So, according to you, increased fuel economy, faster acceleration, better towing and hauling performance is all "needless". By the way, it's not a matter of "gears". The ratios are achieved through the planetary assemblies, it's not like a manual transmission that actually has 10 physical gear sets.

There is no "cold acceleration issue". It's literally the strategy of the transmission during cold start operation. You act as if it's a defect, when in fact it's barely even noticeable, and goes away quickly.

The "poor performance" you speak of is in your mind. You're talking about a transmission that can handle towing 13,200+lbs in a light duty truck while having the capability of clicking off shifts faster than a dual clutch transmission. You don't even understand how it works, yet here you are complaining about it's normal operation.
