Lost Highway Raptor 2.jpg

Been cooped up too long! Decided to take her out to the beach, the "Lost Highway" which is out southwest from Houston. Entered the beach area near High Island which is the very eastern edge of Galveston county. Then headed east towards Beaumont. At the entrance to the beach and for about a quarter mile, it was very congested. It was a little sketchy since there isn't room for parked cars and then two vehicles passsing each other. You had to really get over and stop to let cars pass before you could proceed. But everyone was very courteous and we managed. Saw two stuck vehicles being helped out of their predicament. One was buried 3/4 up the rear tire. Some areas are pretty firm but some areas there was really some soft sand. You really need a 4x4 if you going to traverese the Lost Highway. Anyway, the beach is about 20 miles of narrow open beach. We only made it about 2.5 to 3 miles deep on this first trek. Next time we might go the entire way and exit near McFaden beach. After just 1/2 mile or so, the people really tailed off and folks were spread out nicely. After that first mile, it was probably more like 300-400 yards between folks set up on the beach. By the time we made it out 2.5 miles or so, we couldn't see anyone further out. So the more you go out there, the more secluded it becomes. This was on a very nice Sunday afternoon.

Here is a shot of our first spot to park, probably at about 1.5 miles into the Lost Highway.

Once we got past everyone, there was plenty of room to open it up!! But I couldn't get too crazy since I still had the truck loaded with our gear. Didn't want to toss it all over the place. Next time we'll make sure to make camp somewhere so I can off load the truck and really have some fun! This was our first trip out there so it was just a quick trip to check it out. We'll plan for more time next time!

Lots of sea shells out there. My wife probably gathered about 300 of these hermit crab looking shells.

I asked her what the hell she planned to do with all those damn things. She said take them home! I knew by the look she gave me to just shut up and help her gather more. Happy wife.......... Happy life!! We had a blast out there. Definitely recommend it.

Great way to mount gear to the bedside to keep stuff from flying all over the bed while off-roading. Here’s a pick of mine with my powertank mounted. Love this option as it all fits under my tonneau cover.0d2272a859a0c3fa4f7387352ec665c3.jpg
