2017 Lemon?

It would be nice to know if the cam phasers were done yet. I would hate to get it back and then have to give it back for the phasers. Good luck

Camshaft phasers are not preventative maintenance; the potential issue and corresponding repair does not affect every vehicle.

Thanks all for your responses and feedback. I am definitely calling Ford today with some feedback for them - "I've wanted a Raptor since they came out, finally had a chance to buy one this year, just spent $50k on the truck and now this...I am so disappointed etc etc." See what they will do for me who knows.

In regards to the question about getting a loaner...don't need one as my wife isn't working and I can just use her Explorer if I need to go out. Plus I live in NY and def do not want to get in a loaner right now...

I thought the same thing. Rattle at start up could more than likely equal Cam Phaser issue, not transmission. Of course this is a diagnosis from 1,000 miles away - tech would know more than me..

You said you purchased used in most states unless it was turned in under lemon law by original owner who bought it new, lemon laws dont apply. You purchased a warranty contract I would push the dealer to make it 0 deductible and extend it to 10 years 100k miles for free. It costs nothing to ask. These things break it happens 50,000 parts something's are bound to fail. But you bought the best truck on the planet trust it will get fixed..

I purchased a 2017 also and experienced the exact thing that you have described. To be clear if the rattling that you hear is when you first crank the truck then it goes away it is most probably the Phasers, which was my case. If the rattling occurs after you put the vehicle into reverse or drive then it's possible that i is the tranny. I am leaning that it is the phasers and if so not a problem. Ford should be able to diagnois the problem quickly and if it's the phasers you will be enjoying your Raptor because irt truly is an Awesome truck

My dad always said to never buy the first year of a vehicle. Always thought the 3rd year was safest as there are always bugs to be worked out. Haven’t always heeded his advice but seems like a pretty good rule of thumb.

Your Dad is a wise man. The infamous composite oil pan is a great example of why it pays to be patient. I have wanted a 2nd generation Raptor since it debuted in 2017 and I am still hunting for a sub $50k deal on a 2020 Oxford White or Leadfoot SCAB.
