Me too! But, it works IF done properly. Some manufacturers require to replace all bolts with new bolts if removing and replacing tires.

Sounds nearly as much work as changing out a set of ring and pinion gears. Unless you really need them, true beadlock wheels seem like a maintenance headache.

Appreciate the replies. I just purchased a tow hook holder made by bmw for my M5 which holds a GoPro. Seems like a cool location and POV for some filming. It has a few adjustments to position the camera which sticks out either the rear or front bumper.

It prominently states not legal on road. What a bunch of hooey. I’m guessing like beadlocks, would a LEO actually even know? Doubtful.

There are some beadlock wheels that are not DOT certified. Are they safe? that depends on how well you install them and maintain them from what I see.

the “illegal” comment seems to come from the number of the wheels that aren’t DOT certified, which can be a thing. Each state has a set of comically hard to understand laws relating to vehicles and some specifically aimed at certain types. DOT certification is most prominently applied to motorcycle riders with the obligatory ‘cover the head barely’ helmet that doesn’t provide any sort of impact protection at all, and riders who buy DOT stickers to affix to them. A lot of states have generic laws allowing for the enforcement of overarching safety laws that encompass non DOT equipment.

Technically, if suspected of non DOT equipment, you can have the vehicle towed and impounded, the only real deterrent is that speeding tickets are more ‘sexy’ to most PD management than impounding a 4x4 with suspected non DOT wheels.

Its the DOT rating- and most PD would not care- But here in NJ we had a forest ranger who hated dirt bikes- and would write tickets to other wise league duel sport bikes if they had off road tires. He would see you at a gas station or dinner and pull in and write a ticket.

I drop to 15 for going on the beach- no problems.

dont toggle thru drive modes while you are going 65+ mph on a bumpy dirt road, you may go from 4wd to 2wd. it can get a bit squirrelly, quite an Adrenalin rush tho!

Hey, @rtmozingo! I just stumbled across this today, I think it was a link from one of your other posts. Great info here, thanks a lot man!!! I did RTFM twice when I got my '19 last Aug. but I've been stuck outside the US since Feb. and this was a great refresher on what I'd read in the manual. I'm scheduled for RA late Sept. and I'm going to get some practice in before I go. Your post hits all the highlights in one easy to read place, no paging through the manual on the trail. Super helpful for an OR newbie like me.

Glad to hear it! That's what I was aiming for.

I do wish I could shore it up some tho. Think I could condense it down a bit and provide some better info, but alas I have exceeded my edit allowance.
