first off, I am not a fan of Eugene Stoner designed rifles or their derivatives. I had 3 issued M16’s, 2 of which were total POS. I’m more of a piston gun fan; think FNC, AK, etc. 3rd, unfortunately for me, my closest shooting buddy is a die hard AR enthusiast. Just as he has been able to drag me kicking and screaming from iron sights to red dots, he’s also successfully illustrated you can make a reasonably reliable AR that’s damn precise.

While neither confirming or denying using an 80% lower, I know my buddy has used righttobear receivers. I know he was using a drill press and jig, however that’s a long day. He’s reported to me that using a router instead cuts down the time --significantly--. i have not used a router for that and can’t comment on whether or not it’s significantly better/faster.

Completely agree, am a gas piston guy myself, although I've been lucky with my issued rifles. Have 1 LWRC right now and am building 2 more myself (do you know of anyone who makes a gas piston kit besides Adam's Arms?)

Love my Ruger AR, SR-556 with an adjustable gas piston.

Installed a Wilson tactical trigger and it's very accurate.

there were 2 kits other than Adams, neither of which i was able to source. I ended up getting a POF dictator (DI) adjustable gas block for a 308AR, had some trouble and started jawing with the guy at POF. he offered one of their piston uppers at a fire sale prices so I jumped on it. It is quite accurate. Unfortunately, Covid punked my suppressor endurance test with it, so I don’t know if it’s going to get me any more suppressed rounds between failure. Of course, you have to buy the whole upper but I’m not complaining.

PWS makes a long stroke upper I was looking at as well.

Alright yeah, I'm thinking I'm just going to buy a completed upper to pop on...have heard good things about POF.
