Does anyone know if you can replace the engine oil filter on our trucks without losing much oil? I see the oil filter is located on the bottom of the engine. I always have drained the oil in the past then replaced the filter.

Reason I ask this is I just recently switched over to Amsoil Signature and used the factory Ford filter and want to change the filter a few times before I actually change the engine oil. Dont want to spin the filter off and lose all the engine oil all over the place.

I've never done this, but the oil filter is positioned horizontally in the front of the motor - it is kind of high up as well, it's well above the oil pan. I would think some would drip out but don't know for sure. Even though you use amsoil, as many here do, I wouldn't run super high OCIs on this motor, 5-7k max, no matter the oil.

I run a fumoto valve and thus I can drain directly into my catch container. I have always wondered how much oil comes out of the oil pan itself so during my last oil change I measured and 5 quarts came out of the oil pan. Btw, I let it drain for over an hour. This means there is 1 quart left in the filter and engine that did not come out of the oil pan.
