I have close to the same black truck, had all the gray stuff painted including the tailgate appliqué. It was all fine, just FYI, the applique has a bit of a pebble grain profile the other stuff didn’t have. The paint shop had to do a couple extra coats of clear to make it look just right. Don’t let somebody else’s opinion about what looks right deter you, it’s your truck, do what you damn well want. Others can leave theirs stock on their truck if they wish, who cares what they understand or don’t.

OP is specifically asking for opinions. No one is telling him not to do what he wants.

Paint the tailgate applique as well. I already know painting all the matte black stuff looks terrible, just want to know if this is the icing on the cake.

I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but once everything is painted the truck loses it's uniqueness - looks like every other F-150 on the dealer lot. Ford does a really good job from the factory. Leave them alone.
