Can or does a tune change the exhaust note on our trucks? Don’t know if it’s placebo or just the exhaust breaking in over time, but I swear the exhaust tone of my truck has deepened @ lower rpm & gotten louder/thirstier/raspier in the mid/upper rpm range. Almost sounds like throttle blips power shifting in a manual @ WOT

Normally I’d chalk it up to my mind playing tricks, but given it’s a tt vehicle & the tune effects all aspects of the turbos figured there could be something to it

at any rate, 22k miles in & I now am fully embracing the drivetrain & don’t miss the V8 I had in all previous trucks one bit

maybe...a little...... more fuel...more air...bigger bang....louder exhaust

But also, mufflers do break in over time. so they can get louder.

I have 26k on my truck and I have been very happy with the sound.

The trucks have variable valve timing, so as the truck adjusts the timing I would imagine the note would change. Same would hold true if the tuner adjusted something that forces the truck into a new range of timing. Similar to adding a cam.

Correct me if I am wrong.

As the exhaust breaks in, it does not get louder. As it carbons up, it will get quieter and less raspy. This is exactly what the AWE exhaust people said as well since they wanted to prepare buyers for the loud rasp that would wear in later. The tune will make a subtle difference in exhaust sound because of how it is modifying air/fuel. I would not expect any increase in sound unless you are now using much more throttle in your driving.

You will get more turbo noise as the boost is increased.. i've also found the wastegates open up earlier and my AWE sounds a little different under load/WOT/low RPM, other than that I dont think you'd find a difference a cruising speed.

I thought I was crazy until I saw your post Badger. I just flashed my truck to Cobb Stage 1 this weekend, and I swear the exhaust sounds a little louder and more aggressive. I can’t quite put my finger on what’s changed, but the sound quality is a little different. Maybe there’s something to it.

My truck sounds great with the MPT 93 PRX tune, but I also modified my exhaust at the same time, so I have nothing to compare "just the tune" with...

Just today, I was able to break my 37s loose while rolling in Normal mode, so the power is there as well as the sound!
