Truck Stolen-Now in Market for 2020

Hi everyone,


My 2014 Sierra Denali was stolen 2 days ago. I bought the truck new in Aug of 2014. It had the 6.2 engine and really enjoyed it. I guess it’s time to move on as I do not believe they will find it.

After 20 days the insurance company will cut me a check for the cash value and I plan to buy either a 2020 Raptor, GMC AT4, or a Chevy Trail Boss. I’ve always wanted a Raptor and even considered one before my Denali but at the time the mark ups were so high I could not afford one. Now that I’m further in my career and dealers seem to sale below MSRP I can now see myself purchasing one.

Few Questions:

I’m in San Antonio, Texas. Can you all recommend a dealer that I should work with and is known to offer a great price? I’m willing to travel if needed.

How much off sticker should I expect and shoot for?

What packages/options are a must in your opinion?

The V6 worries me. Should it? Still packs a punch?

Thank god. There is no way I would ever want a vehicle back after it was stolen.

Also note... I wouldn’t be scared of the V6. They are reliable if cared for. When 1st gen eco boost engines turning 300+k miles. There can be problems but there can be problems with any engine. I love the eco boost. My 2nd one and no problems to note with gen 1. If you are diehard v8 guy just test drive and make sure you won’t be disappointed every day because of a lack of v8 “sound.” That is probably the only area lacking in eco boost in my opinion.

I bought from Rogers Ford in Midland. They were 100% straight shooters with me.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks and I think the only think I may miss in the rumble but I think I can live without for such a great truck.

Welcome to FRF, and sorry to hear of your stolen truck.

I bought in ’17, so the market is much better now. Recently we’ve seen users post up as much as 6 or 7 thousand off MSRP(?) This is very much a regional game, and urban and suburban dealers are still trying to nick customers for over MSRP on Raptors. You should be able to use a buying service now and obtain a reasonable deal if you’re not a great negotiator. Worst case, use the internet. Plenty of people here have done the fly / buy / drive home with success.

Must haves are subjective. Almost all of the bells and whistles provide some tangible benefit. The top tier 802a package is really nice, but it’s not necessary. I have the 802a and like it. personally, I think the graphics, carbon fiber, and moon roof are expensive for what you get. Tailgate step - relatively inexpensive, but very useful if you actually haul any cargo.

If you find a Rap without a twin panel moonroof, seriously consider it. They’re as rare as hen’s teeth, but they do exist. The moonroof is a troublesome option that requires some additional maintenance and care, and even then, the opening mechanism is very fragile, prone to breakage and is expensive and difficult to repair. “difficult” meaning for end users, not so much once you’ve had to do it a few times or for pros.

360 camera is awesome, adaptive cruise also very useful in some cases.

The ecoboost has been great for me, and lots of other folks. (Test) drive it (like you stole it) then make up your mind. I think there’s some places you could ... let’s say... more thoroughly ... test drive a Raptor around San Antonio. ;-)

I was just down there, but sadly, in a peasant rental car.

Maxwell Ford in Austin, has a new white 2019 for $9k off sticker.
Automax in Killeen has 2020's listed for +/- $6k off sticker. I would use them as a last resort. I had a horrible buying experience there in 2018, but they ended up giving me the best deal in the area.

Fastest car in the world.

Power wise the 6.2l GM doesn't stack up to the ecoboost: Less peak power, less torque, less area under the curve. The trucks weigh roughly the same. You will hurt on mileage compared to a DOD 6.2l, this is the nature of the raptor, not the engine.

sounds like the trail boss is probably right for you, it has that v8 sound you need. Youll never be happy with the v6.
