2020s out there for invoice so $51k for an 18 with miles is pretty good trade in. I say trade it if you are serious about getting a new one. The longer you wait, the more it will go south.

I'm probably way off here, but why do so many of you guys want to trade in what is basically the exact same truck (minus new suspension,) and take a $15000 + hit?

I OWN my late model 17 and love it, and it even has a few minor things that the newer trucks don't have (ambient lighting, CD etc) I just don't understand what is the big driver to do this? Is it just to have the newest thing again? Is it worth 15K to have a metal oil Pan?

I'll happily sit by and wait for Gen. 3... And while I will not get as much on a trade, I won't take a bath now, essentially buying the same truck with just a couple different numeric digets on the title!

No you're totally right 100% I just didnt realize it took that big of hit and thought what the hell I'd go in and take a look but for that big of a loss in a year I just dont think its worth it like you said

Gen 2 owners should hold off trading until the Gen 3 arrives. You know you are going to want it, so why trade up a year or two newer for basically the same truck?

when brand new current model year SCREWS are being discounted by $5K off MSRP. your not going to get more than $50K on a trade in for a 2 year old vehicle.

Interesting. I'm seeing in here that people are considering paying MSRP high when buying new. When I got my '18 most dealers were still selling at $5-7k over MSRP. I got mine for $2k under and paid 70, but I didn't know dealers were now commonly selling them under MSRP or close to invoice.

I am toying around with getting a super duty. Got offered 50k for mine (22k in excellent condition) sight unseen. They didn’t want to play on their new one so I walked.

$51k is actually generous.

Say you bought it new at MSRP of $65k. The moment you drove it off the lot it became worth $55k. Ad a year and a years worth of miles, $45-50k would be what i would expect on trade in for a 2 model year old truck.

They will turn around and sell it for $57k, giving them a sweet spot of a discount $10-15K under a new 2020 for someone who just cant swing new truck money.

I was thinking the same thing, my '18 (802A, pano, bed cover, etc..) has 54k miles and I am planning a trip out to Utah in June, I will be over 60k before I make it back to STL. I will probably be looking for a '20 before the year is out and figure I would be in the $40's if I trade it in.

I traded my 18 Race Red 802a with 36,000 miles last July for a new 19 Race Red same options (except CF) for $7k difference. I moved my lights and Retrax Pro to the new one. No one at work ever noticed I had a new truck.
