so you admittedly have more than just a basic SC kit & aren’t anywhere close to 700hp & haven’t provided a dyno sheet to back up your claims as it is. Even if that IS true- you’re @ 11 lbs per HP against a tune only gen 2 carrying 11.7 lbs per hp- & while the tranny alone would make up for the very slight HP deficit, we don’t need to consider that factor because the gen2 has ya by about +100 RWTQ

I know what I’m talking about- itd take a boat load of work to crack 600whp on a gen2 Raptor (let alone get anywhere close to that on TQ) I have a built C5 Z06 that obviously has WAY less parasitic loss than gen 1 raptor being only rwd, having way less unsprung weight, a super short driveshaft & a Manual tranny. If you don’t understand how that makes a difference don’t bother replying. Now, that being said- a C5Z is also quite similar crank HP to a gen 1 raptor, and w/ cam headers & a centrifugal blower they make around 600whp on a mustang dyno.

so gtfoh w/ your 700 claim from a damn gen1 whipple raptor or evening a 600 claim

YOU SAID 700hp - nobody else, then instead of showing a dyno sheet you come back telling us your truck has more than just a blower & is only making 570whp....supposedly.

"Hate to stir the pot but a 700hp gen 1 will walk the dog on a mpt tunes gen 2 believe me! I got roasted in my gen 2 by a whipple gen 1 in multiple races 0/60, 40 roll , 60 roll.
Embarrassed me so bad I had to get another gen 1"

OP - Gen 1 guy here. All Raptors are good trucks and if you're planning on keeping it mostly stock, aren't looking for a lot of power out of it, and only likely to keep it for a few years, than a Gen 2 is probably the better move.

Why should someone only keep a Gen II for a "few years", troll? You have zero data to back up a word of the biased, unfounded nonsense that you spew on this forum. Gen IIs also make plenty of power even stock, much faster than a Gen 1, yet you claim they're only good if someone "isn't looking for a lot of power out of it"? LOL, you are a joke. A simple MPT tune puts down 452 WHP for $675 on an otherwise bone stock truck. You spent over $10,000 for how much power on an engine that's not even designed for forced induction?

Prices on '17s seem to be dropping pretty quick. If you can find one with 30-40k miles on it that has been trouble free, then that is the route I would go as it has already proven itself to be "one of the good ones". AG was available in '17, as well.

Maybe in your mind. A clean 2017 with typical mileage for a 3 year old vehicle is still $50K. The cheapest one on Autotrader - Nation wide - is $36,000 with 130,000 miles on it. Put down the crack pipe.

17's do look like a pretty decent deal. The goal somewhere down the road is to obtain a Shelby or Roush edition and play Supercharger Man! But, that' have to wait until my 11 year old drives so my 17 year old can pass the 350 to him and I the 17' to him. In the meantime, a Gen. 2 will seem pretty cushy for sure.

OH...your gonna love playing SuperChargerMan...I promise....Have had my 2014 Gen 1 Shelby 1 year now...had 50K on it when I bought and MINT,Garage Kept,and thought it was a brand new truck. I have 60K on it now,no problems at all,except my face hurts all the time from the big grin every time I drive it...
Problem is,if I read right,your not ready for one for 6 years when son turns 17...hummmmm...the way they are selling now,might be hard to find one that hasnt been beat to sh*# by then...and the Mint ones might be out of $$ range....but thats a whole nother ramble going on between Gen1 and Gen 2 owners,that I stay out of....I'm loving mine and thats all that counts....and the Whipple SC is a kick in the pants...fastest vehicle I've ever owned...and I have a Corvette and a 540I BMW also...which have seen very little road time since I got SUPERCHARGED....;)

Is there any difference between the 17's and 18's?

Cam phasers were revised on vehicles built 7/10/2018 and later to resolve an issue identified with the parking pin. Oil pan was changed to a one piece aluminum design on vehicles built 2/26/18 and later. Earlier models had a plastic lower oil pan and a aluminum upper oil pan.

You are always going to get people going back and forth on which is better between gen 1 and gen 2 and it probably isn’t going to help make your mind up, at least it wouldn’t for me if I were on the fence.

I would suggest test driving both, might help make your mind up. Plus you would get a feel for both platforms which would be nice. Driving them will you narrow in on what you are looking for in a truck since everyone is different and looking for something different.

I bought a gen 1 for a few reasons and one of them was the V8. I do realize that on paper it doesn’t perform as well as the EcoBoost but something about that sound. I also realize that sound has zero bearing on performance and is subjective, but it makes the drive more fun for me, especially off-road. If anyone has heard Troy from Valhalla Motorsports Truck with him driving you will know what I mean.

Having said all of that, I have owned a gen 1 EcoBoost in a 2014 FX4. It was tuned with down pipes and it was quick. I really liked the power delivery, you had 90% of available torque at like 1900 rpms. No one who rode in it thought it was fast unless they saw the speedo since it doesn’t quite push you further into the seat as you gain speed and doesn’t have that v8 sound.

I would be all for the aluminum body, a little interested in if it will corrode any, especially since other parts of the truck are steel. I do know that aluminum and steel are side by side on the galvanic scale though so it should be minimal I would think.

You seem to struggle with the fact that if someone dumped $10K+ into a Gen 2, it would wipe the floor with your truck. Your comparisons are ridiculous.

no kidding, says I’m playing “word games” & wants to get technical on me? Bro- you’re the one comparing lbs per HP & using 700 for a gen 1- if you get into convos about modded vehicles & lbs per HP it’s ALWAYS a discussion of power to the wheels, not hypothetical crank hp. And if it’s performance gains we wanna compare then I’d take that a step further- drop the dyno # talk & bring your rig to the strip see what it runs. Period.

I mentioned blown C5Zs as a comparison due to my experience w/ GM stuff & fact they start out w/ similar power level as a gen 1- can they make more than 600whp w/ a blower? Yeah- you can start knocking on 700whp, but to do so reliably requires a lot more supporting mods.

same goes for the Gen 1 raptor. Guys that are hitting 550+ who

Dyno sheets & facts. Stock for stock there’s no comparison. Mod for mod no comparison. The fact that we can even debate whether or not a tune only 5500 lb gen2 is faster than a 6300 lb 570whp blown gen 1 w/ $10k+ in mods shows how inferior the gen 1s are on every level to begin with.

it’s not a knock on the gen 1s per se- it’s just progress.

oh- and another thing- in stock form while also being more powerful, much torqued, stiffer, much lighter, they can also tow & haul a good bit more too!!! Making a better overall DD

oh- the tunes gen 2s making 470whp & 500+ tq? They’re also getting 16.5mpg mixed, a blown gen 1 on 37”s doesn’t even get gas mileage- you may as well
Just look at it as fuel per minute bahahahahhahahhaha

question? What do gen 1 guys do for shock upgrade? Answer- install gen 2s

I do like the sound & looks of gen 1s too tho, they’re both great trucks, the gen2 is just better in nearly every measure
