Is there any difference between the 17's and 18's?
The question I would be asking is what build dates have the most cam phaser issues, etc.
I am a Gen1 owner so you know where I stand, but with all my Gen2 stalking - unfortunately the Gen1s just don’t have as many problems I guess
- it seems there are certain model years and dates that have this issue and others more-so.

Get an '18 and put a custom tune and bigger intercooler. You'll be fine

Coming from an early '18 build to a '20 in the last couple of weeks, I'd personally just go for a '20 or leftover '19. The improvements aren't huge between the two, but enough to make me stoked I purchased the slightly updated 2020 version.
It's a holiday weekend... I'd pick up the phone and start calling shops across the country. You should be able to find '20's at invoice and '19's even lower than that without much of an issue.

2021 will be the best with all new v8
It'll be a mid year refresh 2021.5 still no v8.
Go with an 18, none of the oil pan issues the 17s had. All Ecoboost motors are susceptible to cam phaser issues dating back the to early teens. I haven't met anyone in person with a 19 who's actually enjoyed the live valve shocks.

I'm a PROUD Gen 1 owner. I have 160, 000 miles and counting and NEVER a Problem. Just maintain and turn the key and go. I rather put 20 grand in my Gen 1 and make completely New again wich I plan on doing some day. Cant beat the Reliability of the Gen 1. Just my opinion but I do Admit the Gen 2s are very nice looking trucks. But been on this Forum for a while and i see alot of problems the Gen 2 have mean while Gen 1s keep going and going
