When I ordered and purchased my 2017 Raptor I was aware that it was new in many ways and had a lot of technology, so when my dealer offered me a 60,000 mile extended warranty I felt it may be best. Recently, when I reached 60,000 I was very happy I got it because of the issues with transmission and engine failures that have been reported on this and other forums.

Well, I received a letter from Ford Protect that my extended warranty is up for renewal because the truck just hit 60,000mi? I thought it started at 60,000? So I called Ford Protection and they said that the warranties start at the purchase date and pretty much said I should have read the fine print. They said it is also on the brochure. I told them that I didn’t even question it because who would buy an extended warranty that runs concurrent with the factory plan and covers the same repairs! (Guess I did)

They sounded like this was a common complaint, and did not even offer a discount to purchase one now. So even though I planned ahead and paid for an extended warranty, both my warranties expired this month and I have none now.

Just want to put this out because maybe some are not aware, it is best to wait for the factory plan to expire then purchase an extended plan.

Sorry for your confusion, but that is exactly the way extended warranties work. You are buying the extension for the time period and miles AFTER the standard 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty is expired. They are still a good deal, as long as you do not pay full asking price and you do NOT plan to modify your vehicle.

Did you just buy the basic Powertrain Care? I would not have purchased that plan betting that the component failing would be covered under basic 5 year/60k.

I purchased Premium Care that covers a lot more as I was concerned about the electronic components on the truck that would not be covered after the 3 year/36k bumper to bumper warranty.

Sorry you had a different interpretation on the start date for the plans.

You can wait until 35,999 and then purchase an extended warranty. Its only 100.00 over initial asking price. Sorry Ford did you this way.

Not really. Buying the warranty after your factory warranty expires for Ford ESP means you have to get the vehicle inspected first. With Ford you definitely want to extend BEFORE the factory warranty expires. I don't think Flood Ford (which has some of the best pricing) will sell to people with expired factory warranties.

Sounds like you have no idea how warranties work. If you buy an 8 year 75K warranty it is good for (drumroll)....8 years from start of factory warranty and 75K total miles whether you buy it day 1 or mile 35999.

You probably overpaid for the first warranty, but no reason you can't get an extension from someone else for 8/125K or similar.

Any car warranty that you by from any manufacturer as extended warranty coverage, covers the mileage stated in what you are purchasing. 60K extended warranty covers 60K miles. Thats standard in the entire industry.

I suggest looking at aftermarket warrantee companies. I originally bought the dealer warranty, then found better coverage through my credit union for less than half the price. Cancelled the Ford warranty and took the other one.
