Was wondering if anyone is running 5W-40 in these motors. Looks like ford recommends 5W-30.

Once i get 1-2k miles going to change the oil and would like to use Motul Sport Ester 5W-40, curious how many of you are using this weight oil in these engines.

Most, including myself, seem to run mobil1 5-30.

What do you think you will gain from the 40?

Don't think i will gain anything, only the oil i'm used to running doesn't come in 5W-30 weight. I want to run a full ester based Synthetic oil in this truck, curious if anyone is running 5W-40.

Just thinking but are the seals in our engine rated for ester based oil?

Yeah, I run Redline 5w30 in mine and it is ester based. I have the plastic oil pan with no leaks or any other oil-related problem.

I am using Motul also but the 5w30 eco-lite. It is the only one in Motul family meets the required specification. The specification is very important as i discussed with a Motul distributor.
I did my first oil change at 6000 km usin Castrol 3w30 FST but i got some metallic noice at startup and very high oil consumption like 0.75 l / 1000. I suspect the oil does not meet the specification and i changed for Motul eco-lite after 1000 km only. Now is no noice at all but the consumption i will check next month after my return from traveling. My conclusion is that the required specification is important. I wanted also to use some 5W40 grade oil due to higher stability on temperature. Need more study for is and a specialist opinion.
