@Dane ummmm now that you mentioned it lol. faceplant
Now that we have that out of the way.

I always wheel with an actual hitch on - not for recovery, but so that it's the first thing to hit (before my bumper). The hitch is cheap and virtually indestructible. Any basic run of the mill 2" ball hitch from an auto parts store is fine. But yes, as stated above, please do not use the ball for recovery. You CAN use the pin that holds the hitch in though. Remove the hitch and thread a rope into the receiver. Then use the hitch pin to hold it in place. But, you have those nice big hoops there already, might as well use those.

What are the thoughts of using only one of the rings/hoops (driver or passenger only) for a recovery? Any realistic chance of pulling a frame out of square?

The receiver ‘hitch’ is bolted to the truck from the factory. What you refer to above multiple times is call a ‘ball mount’.

Pretty silly semantics argument you’re attempting. What’s a a drop hitch then? Or a weight distributing hitch? Those must be a drop ball mount and a weight distributing ball mount?

I get what you’re saying, but c’mon.
