Good of you to share your opinion on the value of a CO2 tank vs onboard air. How much did you spend on your OBA? How fast can it fill 1 or 4 tires?

I don’t have OBA. Unfortunately I don’t off-road enough to justify it, if I did I most definitely would do it. I did go cheap in the beginning with a Smittybilt CO2 but no longer use it because a friend ruined the regulator by running it when it was sideways and getting it refilled in my area was always a pain. Places wanted to exchange it and I didn’t want to do that. The tanks have to be certified and only last for so many years. Some places around me refused to fill my own tank. They way I had it mounted to my bed ended up ripping out when I was in Baja so we ended up putting it into the cab. Made me nervous. I wrapped it in two sleeping bags to try and make it as safe as possible considering the circumstances. I would NEVER put a CO2 tank in the cab as a permanent solution.

If this guy doesn’t want to put his tank in the bed, then OBA should be his choice regardless what it cost. I have learned that going cheap is not always the best option and if I ever decided to go back to a tank, I would buy PowerTank regardless the cost. We own raptors, don’t be cheap.

I personally have a compressor that is 5.65 CFM. The air is free but it does take awhile to fill no doubt. But I can fill my 37’s within its duty cycle so I don’t have to wait for it to cool down.

I got a ARB and bolted it under my seat but may relocate to my bed and ill install a 5lb air tank and mount it to the tank and secure it somehow but here is my current cab setup.

I have 35" tires and can inflate (from being completely flat) them in 2 minutes from a 10 lb tank.
Around here (Cheyenne) everyone fills them. I do have mine mounted in the bed (Bak Flip Cover) with a 50' hose.

Looks decent. Don’t use them sideways as liquid will go into the regulator. Always turn it right side up when using it.

Good Call and I believe he stores it there and pull it out for fills (I hope lol) I have been thinking about getting a tank as a secondary if my OBA craps out for some reason but those tanks are expensive been thinking about going to a welding shop and seeing if they will sell a used one with the fittings.

Ebay has the whole setup for a lot less than Power Tanks. Same tank/gauges.

CO2 is definitely the way to go. I can fill up my 37's from 20 to 45lbs about 4 times with a 10lb tank. Like @SS308 said, about 2 minutes a tire. The one issue I have is finding an inflator with an integrated gauge that can handle the pressure from the CO2 tank. I just bought a gauge made for testing compression (300psi I think) I'm going to attach to an inflator to see if that will last.

That said, I would never mount it in the cab. That is a lot of stored potential energy. If you were in an accident, just the right way, it could burst and send shrapnel everywhere or any myriad of horrific things. I'm probably being paranoid, but I have plenty of room in the bed. I only have the tank in the mount when off-roading, so I'm rarely concerned about it getting stolen.
