Hi guys, In the looking stages and have done a bunch of research. I was wondering your thoughts on the differences. I know the suspension is different, but would I really tell the difference never owing a raptor before? It doesn't look like any changes to the motor, Just reading about the cam sensor thing. Was that fixed in 2017? What about the plastic oil pan? What other small changes are worth buying a 2019? My thinking is If I get a 2018 I will be able to do a 100K or 120K warranty on it, Some nicer wheels and Amp steps.
Thanks...

Thanks that helps a little more. What about the problems / improvements between them? Besides the options stuff.

They gloss over the measurements feature on the 19s. Ford does not even mention it. I think it is a super cool feature on the 19 and 20. Btw ford went back to metal oil pan starting on trucks produced after feb 28 2018.

You should be able to tell pretty easily if you’re buying a used truck. Check the usual stuff, but make sure you get a start on a fully cold engine. Use a laser thermometer to check the block temp if needed, but the only way to tell if the cam phaser park problem is there, is on a cold soak start up. if it’s warmed up even a few seconds, you miss the chance to hear if there’s a problem lingering there.

If your potential purchase is a pre 2/28/18, visibly check the oil pan and make sure it’s not leaking or weeping oil.

To answer your questions, mid 2018 was the point where Ford stopped using the plastic oil pan and went back to a metal oil pan. The plastic pans cracked and leaked.

To date, the cam phaser / cold start rattle has still not been solved by ford engineering. This 3.5 ecoboost motor has been around since 2010 in various configurations and the cold start rattle issue has also been since the start. Ford has recently introduced yet another attempt at fixing the cam phaser design, but there are reports of that design not working either. The cold start rattle of the cam phasers is still there.
