Im always weary of dealerships, and this is one of the reasons. A lot of dealers seem to be dropping the prices on the Gen 2's to obviously get rid of them, but my brain always asks, "whats in it for them?" Heck, I got down the rabbit hole, and honestly ask myself, what do they know that we don't? With the introduction of the 7.3L gas truck motor, Will Ford be developing a different tune and Cam design to retrofit that into a Gen 3? Also, if that's the case, are they assuming the Gen 2 value to plummet because of that pathetic 3.5? Like a lot of the other gents have said, Id rather gave a babied Gen 1 than a beat Gen 2. Factor in the uncertainty of the next gen, and I would play it safe with the Gen 1. That trucks value is going to stay up regardless of a new Raptor with a V8.

You are overthinking this. No dealership uses rumors as reasoning for setting prices, nor do they have any insider info being a Ford dealer. Dealerships set their price using software that takes into account current and future market trends and auction prices, among other sets of data. One of the things that the gen 2 has going against it is the sheer volume of production. More trucks equals more competition, which drives down prices. Although seeing early gen 2's close to 40k is not something I expected to see this soon.

I prefer the tech so would go with the Gen 2 over Gen 1 hands down. I wouldn't buy it without getting an extended warranty, but that's just me, it's not a Toyota.

Supply and demand. Most of the guys who wanted a Gen 2 Raptor now have one.

i would think gen 1 owners would be hoping they dont bring the V8 back to keep values high on the gen 1 trucks. regardless of all the chest beating on here lets be honest, the only thing people lust after from gen 1 is the 6.2 v8, thats it. the gen 2 truck is superior in every aspect despite all the complaints about the exhaust note and slight turbo lag.

prices are dropping on the gen 2 trucks because there are still a lot of 19's in dealer inventory and like any previous model year vehicle, they need to be cleared out. that and the fact that gen 2 has been out for 4 years and nearing the end of its life span.

now with gen 3 around the corner the v8 only crowd is yet again waiting another year and hoping for something that likely wont happen. all manufacturers of all types of vehicle are getting away from big na engines for a multitude of reasons. i wont be surprised if there is a hybrid raptor within 5-10 years the way the auto industry is going.

if a v8 does come back dont expect it as the standard engine and be ready to pay a hefty price tag, if you can even get one.

That's it? Well that's your opinion.

I'm not helping Gen 2 values because I won't buy it. I don't like them. Throw away the shit engine entirely- I don't like the Gen 2 styling in many ways. The squared off catfish mouth grille is a hideous copy of the Gen 1 grille. The high wasted, low bedside look is weak. The rear bumper and exhaust tip setup is retarded looking. The big plastic wart on the hood is ugly. The huge LED bars in the headlights are too over the top and will not age well, just like all of the aggro-styling elements it has. The frameless sliding rear window is also strange looking.

Let's go inside. When I drove Gen 2s, I found that there's less room in the driver's seat for tall people and the arm rest is not at the right height. I felt like I was sitting on the seat and not in it. The non-circular vents are a huge downgrade from the Gen 1 and the A/C seats don't cool your back. It's cool the Sync 3 can do AA and is faster, but Sync 2 is much nicer looking. Nicer plastics in the 17+ yes, but the dashboards warp a lot from being so thin.

The ONLY thing I'd want from a Gen 2 truck in my truck is the aluminum body. I can upgrade the Gen 1 suspension to be better than a Gen 2. I can upgrade the engine to be better than a Gen 2 fartbox. I can't upgrade the body from steel to aluminum.

This thread is funny, 1 VS 2 OP....drive both, assess both, make a list of pros and cons, and buy what feels good to you. That being said, both trucks are good trucks, I personally have a Gen 1, fits my needs and I am not a techy kind of guy. Long story short cant go wrong with either, but 80K miles on a 17 etc is a lot in not that long of time....just my 2 cents.

No doubt, I have a running list. My hopes for the post were to pick up a couple of less known nuggets that you can only find with ownership e.g. the air vents, never would have guessed that.

I appreciate all the feedback.
