Crusing along the highway coming home doing 80mph and I decided to look at the engine gauges. The volts would go from 12 to 14 and sometimes stay at 14 then go back to 12 which is weird. Then I looked at the oil pressure and it would go from 66ish to 22ish and in between. Very strange, not too sure how correct these are?
Has anyone else seen weird readings on their digital guages?

Those are not weird readings; they are actually completely normal for a GEN2.

The engine uses a variable displacement oil pump, which is controlled by the PCM and reduces oil pressure under light loads (cruise/coast). As engine load increases (acceleration, climbing a grade), the PCM ramps up oil pressure to match. Conventional oil pumps can only vary oil pressure with engine RPM, which does not compensate for changes in oil viscosity due to temperature or engine loading.

As far as the charging system, same principle. Similar to regenerative braking, the system charges during cruise/coast and stops charging under a load to improve fuel economy and efficiency.

Wow thanks for that, killer explanation, I wasnt aware of that one bit. Pretty cool tech!
