The first day I got my Raptor I pulled up to an intersection and stopped. There was a motorcycle cop doing radar on the corner, and I said hi and he acknowledged. I proceeded to take a right and he put the lights on and pulled me over. He walked around and looked at the truck and commented “nice truck, license and registration please” I asked why I was being pulled over and he said no right turns during school hours. I politely said, I didn’t see a sign. I told him that I was recently in church and the sermon was about being honest. .....A guy is driving along and an officer is coming in the opposite direction and notices that the driver had no seatbelt on. The officer makes a U Turn turns on his lights, and stops the guy. As the officer approaches the car the driver puts his seat belt on. The officer walks up to the driver side window and says to him “you didn’t have a seat belt on.” The driver responds to the officer and says “I Had My Seat Belt On” and the officer says no you didn’t. After a few more replies from the driver telling the officer I had my seat belt on! The officer looks over to the passenger side where the drivers wife is sitting, and says to her “did he have his seat belt on?” She looks at the officer and says “ I’ve been married to him for over 30 year, and one thing I’ve learned is that when he’s been drinking you can’t argue with him:>) Well after the officer stopped laughing he only gave me a warning!

Greeting the officer with a smile and manners is rarely offensive to anyone. understanding what officers encounter, and making their job easier and safer for them also goes a long way.

I constantly get followed and pulled over when driving my raptor on the street in Arizona or California. Lousiana license plates look very very similar to California plates. If you arent paying attention, mistaking one for the other is really easy to do. It isn't that often that you see a Louisiana plate in California, especially when the personalized plate exists in both states.

I've been held at the border for it, I have been held at checkpoints because of it. I have been pulled over for it.

As long as I smile, and joke about the mistake and don't take it to heart, The interactions are actually pretty funny and entertaining.

I happen to know the California owner of the same personalized plates. It's gone so far that he's gotten a traffic camera ticket and a toll violation ticket sent to him. His plate is on a 911, which makes it that much funnier.

I'll also say that most states have a maximum vehicle width for a private vehicle. Once over that, a wide load banner and sometimes a commercial operator's license/registration are required.

If you measure with my tape, I am .1" shy of the max. If you measure with an uncalibrated measuring tape, my truck might be a full inch over the max.

I have no intention of flying a wide load banner on my truck, nor my trailer, so I guess I'm a rebel.

Then there is the matter of grey legality when considering my tire choice.

my plate lights are "there"... sorta.



I think it would be a fun exercise to tally up how many equipment violations that my truck would have if I were a California resident. they might tally more than its worth.

Some guys are just a$$holes or are having a bad day, or he remembered you from a week ago cutting him off...it happens.

I would just xerox the ticket and run off a batch of wallpaper with it, maybe for the garage, chalk it up to "oops".
