So I've been lurking on here for about 6 months and have come to the following conclusions in my search for a truck;

1) I ultimately would love to have a Gen 2 Shelby or Hennessey version but cannot spend the $100-120k it would take at the moment. Should be in that position in a few years.

2) Am intrigued and would probably be selling myself short if I didn't experience the V8 everyone seems to love.

3) Low miles Gen 1's are still around so should be able to find a good example for a decent price ($35-45k) and not lose much when I move up in 3-4 years.

4) Gen 1's set up properly look pretty mean (so do Gen 2's). Kind of that old school, ****.

5) Edit: Will be able to pass the Gen 1 to my older son when my younger son drives and gets the F350.

So I'm wondering if there are differences between the different year Gen 1 models that I should be concerned about? Anything to avoid? Thanks in advance for any advice.

in a nutshell and im probably forgetting a couple things.....2010 and 2011 are exaclty the same except for certain parts of the audio system. howver 2010 the 6.2 was an option. 2012 came with the torsen front diff so some people going to top perch were having binding issues. 2013 and 2014 introduced hid headlights and a different front axle. 34 to a 35 tooth spline. (or was it the other way around) a different center dash layout and new sync system

The 2010 1/2 which is when they switched to the 6.2L not an option and is most different in comparison to the 2011-2014

2011-2014 share the same PCM architecture were the 2010 1/2 has some 2009 architecture.
In 2011 they introduced select shift, changed the front drivetrain IWEs and something else.
And like mentioned before some radio difference in dash cluster layout.

2012 they changed the rear axle spline and brake components.
And like mentioned before Torsen front diff was made available.
And Sync 2 was offered.

2013 & 2014 are pretty much the same with the Sync 3 added.
And again like mentioned before HID headlights.
Reinforced gussets were added in the rear frame rails.
And I too probably forgot something.

JUST DO IT..!! and do it TWO times if you can find a Gen1 SHELBY w/Whipple SC....Stay away from the Hennessey...nothing but bad reviews on this site...Have had my Gen1 for 1 year...bought with 50K and turning 60K now....I LOVE IT and have not regreted $$ spent once!!;)

Thanks and my son wishes for me to purchase two! He gets my 03' F350 King Ranch, Crew Cab, Long Bed (is that long enough?) once I get my Screw. And why is it called a "screw"?

Guess I need to lay off the Hennessey website as that stuff is crack! So I'm guessing the Shelby is much more reliable? Thanks for the warning.

Super Crew.. we just started calling them screws. Super Cabs are nicknamed scabs lol.

really any of the 6.2L Raptors are going to be fun but as mentioned, those factory updates are more sought after in the later years. Personally I'd buy a 13 or 14, you get all the updates Ford did plus you can upgrade the sync 2 system to the current sync 3. as well the HIDs are some of the best ever offered on a production truck.
