I just replaced one of my axles and could not get it past the shock. Maybe if I spent more time I could have got it past. I do have the 3.0 fox shocks but doubt that would be the problem. Only take a few minutes to pull shock.

once you unbolt the steering, upper a-arm and brake parts, the spindle can rotate forward and outwards and the axle will come out of it.

Once that is done, you pry the axle loose from the differential end and slide the axle shaft out. The shock doesn't get in the way, if it gets tight, just articulate the cv.

I've done this whole process about 1000 times. I replace cv boots fairly regularly.

If you look up "f-150 cv boot replacement" on youtube, you'll see a slew of videos describing the procedure.

If you don't unbolt the swaybar or steering, I could see how it might seem like you have to remove the shock.

Do I need to add any grease to either side?

Thanks!

i usually just put a little bit of red and tacky grease on the end of the stub shaft.

when replacing a cv boot, yes, you need to clean and regrease with cv moly crease.

Ok so I think I was shipped the wrong parts. I don’t understand are the left axle and right axle different in the way they connect to the differential? I look on one of the parts stores and I see the attachment as what is recommended. The left is different than the right. I appear to have been sent two rights from Tasca. Where can I find the OEM part numbers for both of them?

Thanks!

I think the difference is in the length.

There all the same # 2009-2014

Yeah this is helpful. After looking at what you sent they connect differently. I was sent two right side shafts and started on the left side. So I don’t have one that fits. Thanks for the help.

I think southwest overland used to sell a short chunk of 1/4 dyneema with a loop in each end. You lasoo the shaft and put a hammer handle thru other loop to pop the axle

the driver's side is a male stub CV end that goes into the dif. The passenger is a male end on the dif side.

if you pull the axle shafts, you need a "plug" for the driver's side so the gear oil doesnt dump out.
