Hey I was at the ford dealership to look at at cars and trucks that I can’t buy. Basically killing some time. The ford salesman guy and I was talking about the new ford raptor. I told him I like everything about the truck except for the engine. Then he told me that in 2020 they are going to put the engine from the gt500 in the raptor as a $25000 option. 750hp.
Has anybody else heard this?

A $25,000 OPTION? Baloney, that's not an option. That's a different vehicle altogether.

Look, guys, we are observing the end of the V8. Ford has bet the farm on turbocharged V6 and I4 powerplants. GM is coming out with a new Trailblazer that has two engine options, and they're both turbocharged 3 cylinder "engines" that are smaller in displacement than some motorcycle engines. Hybrids, electrics, etc. If you own a 6.2L Raptor, never sell or trade it. And a few years down the line you'll need to garage it (if you don't already) to keep it from being stolen.

Its not like the engine doesn't exist, it's just waiting to be dropped in. The difference is, 20 years ago it would have been a $5,000 option and would sell like crazy. Now, they'll make it an option but will look to squeeze every cent out of it to make it economically viable. Its akin to a contractor who doesn't really want to do the work for you, but throws out a ridiculous price to see if you'll bite. And as a bonus, Ford can then claim they gave the customer what they wanted.

I think that is spot on, but not for 2020. I think Ford will bring a boosted V8 for the F150 Raptor then debut the Ranger Raptor (after the next-gen is debuted). The engine would help separate the two, IMO.
