I am doing my research as I am interested in buying 3 Baja Designs LP6 and I have questions about wiring them up.

Per Baja Design's description >> With an amber day-time running light, low power, and high power mode, the LP6 will fulfill all your lighting needs.

So can I assume this light has 3 different pigtails for power?

As everyone knows, the Gen2 has 6 auxiliary switches. I plan to wire the amber day-time to switch 6 so I can have absolute control when I want it on and off. From reading I understand you can wire them to oem amber LEDs so that when they come on LP6 amber day-time will also come on. Regardless, I want complete control so I pan to use auxiliary switch 6.

So 1st question ... does auxiliary switch 6 have enough power (amps) to run all 3 LP6 lights?

2nd question ... So now I have 5 switches remaining and I still want absolute control for the lower power and high power and I am not sure how to go about this while still insuring that I have enough amps to drive the lights via the 5 remaining switches.

3rd question ... And this maybe a dumb question, but with high power on, do I still need to have the amber day-time switch on or does high power means all the 3 light modes are on?

4th question ... In what mode is the "peripheral lighting" on?

Thank you!

They actually have a 4 pin Deutsch connector on the back of the lights.

Amber back light is not controlled with low or high mode, it is a completely separate circuit within the light so must be triggered by itself or to come on with your other clearance lights.

IPT comes on with low beam and high beam.

I prefer to run separate relays. 1 for high beam and 1 for low beam and then use a 3 way switch on-off-on so that way I don't accidentally leave low beam on and power the high beam circuit as that can damage the lights. But you can use the aux switches to trigger the relays as well, just keep that in mind not to have high and low beam on at the same time. Amber can be on all the time if you want. I prefer not to run any load through any switch and let the relay handle the power, but part of that is me just being overly cautious and OCD. With a short enough wire run you should be able to run 3 LP6's off of 12 ga wire but there are charts online that show amps vs wire run vs were gauge. I ran a fairly long run with 12 ga and 2 LP9's on a kenworth with the smallest fuse I could get away with and have had no problems whatsoever.

Well the LP4 don't have a low/high mode, just a high only and the amber back lit... so nothing to worry about.. LP6 and LP9 do have a high/low mode.

So 1) Each LP6 will pull 7.5Amps total (6.0 for the forward lights and 1.0 for the side lights). So you can run 1 single LP6 on Switch 1 through 4. If you plan to run a pair of them that would call for 15 amps. And while SW 1 and 2 can do 15 amps, i do not recommend you do that. You always want a little extra in there. So if you run a pair you'll want a relay. We sell a relay that connects 2 LP6/LP9 together. The harness includes a relay and a switch. So in your case you'd just cut the switch off and wire that to your upfitter. ANY upfitter in this case would work, as you're just using the upfitter to trip the relay, which is pulling power from the battery:

Harness: http://www.4x4truckleds.com/baja-designs-lp9-harness-2-light-max-pro/

For lower power/high power... see question 1s answer... that magical harness I linked :) Again with LP4 there is no LOW mode... but if you had LP6/LP9 the harness has a switch on it that does either LOW, OFF, HIGH. So you can use your upfitter instead on the 2nd leg from the switch (i usually recommend folks just cut everything off at the end of the harness you don't need/want. You're really buying the harness to avoid having to make your own cable/connectors)

Low power means the lower lights are on. High power means ALL the lights (bottom and top) are on. The back-lit function is a completely separate function/separate leds. With the high or low on, you probably won't/can't see the amber back light since the light will be so bright.

Peripheral is on in high mode i believe only.

Another option is get your LP6s from us and get the LVJ Motorsports Relay Kit. THIS Is the route I went. I use my upfitter to trip the relay system in the LVJ panel, which is connected to my LP9s (i did LP9). I have this for the highs. I have 4x LP9 so I use 2 relays off the LVJ panel (1 for each pair). I then took 2 more relays to connect the LOW mode on the LP9 (you can do it from 1 relay if you needed to, the lows that is, but i'm planning to have options down the road for WHICH lights the low goes on). So now you can tap the LOW into another upfitter OR, and here's the fun part, use the LVJ's built in high-beam mode to tie that low mode into your highs. So when you flip your high beam circuit on, the LP6 low mode comes on.

But as I said, with LP4, no low mode, so nothing to worry about, you can't activate a low mode. But if you went with LP6/LP9s that should answer your questions. Sounds like LP9 might be better suited for you if you want low/high mode.

Let me know if you need more help.

Is that new then? The baja designs website video shows high/low mode at the 0:45 mark.

So, 4x4 is incorrect. There is absolutely a high/low feature on the LP6’s.

We run them on one of our shop trucks and they definitely have the high/low feature.

Err typo. I meant the LP4 has no low/high. LP6 and LP9 have low high. (I was talking to someone about LP4s while I wrote your response lol).

So yeah follow my above instructions for either LP6 or LP9 if you want low/high to function. BUT if you get LP4 you'll be out of luck, no low mode on LP4. The amp ratings I listed are for LP6 however.

I have two LP6s. Love them. All my upfitters are utilized. I just used the Baja Designs wiring kit and mounted it in the dash. Need to have a 3 mode switch for on/off/on. The Baja wiring kits comes with a line crimp for the backlighting. I tapped both lights to the driver side front side marker LED. Great lights and looking at getting a set of LP4s as well.

I was going to ask if anyone has them and if they put out sufficient light down stream. I ran 5 Vision X light canons (4.5") on my GEN1 and while I love the flexibility of swapping out lenses for different color (amber and clear) they were not very good lights.

I knew on my gen2, I needed bigger lights and the LP6 seems to be the right size without being enormous lights.

Are you running driving combos? Any pics of them in action?

Do you have any pictures of the output at night with those 4 LP6's? Would you recommend 2 driving combo's and 2 spots or 4 driving combo's? Sorry to derail the thread OP.

We'll get some output shots and get them posted ASAP. If you're going to run 4 of them, 2 spots on the inner and two driving combo is a solid setup!
