Strange noise 2020 gen 2

Very disappointing Ford dealers have mechanics who are completely clueless about the cars they sell. Coming to Ford from Toyota/Lexus, it feels as Ford is lacking about 20 years behind in technical knowledge and expertise. How can they give you a warranty runaround on a brand new $70K+ truck? It's not like you bought Ford Fiesta from them.


Yeah, I come from foreign cars. It amazed me. I’ve never bought a vehicle this expensive before and I’ve never ever had an experience like this.

I had to have a transmission replaced on a past vehicle and they didn’t even blink an eye to order it and replace it. And give me a nice loaner on top.

but I just feel like insulted and brushed off. I’ll be sure to keep this thread updated.

Again I think you can get different experiences at different dealerships.

of course certain brands throw Loaner’s and courtesy at you left and right to try to help. I also think many brands that used to not sell such pricey vehicles, do now. And the people who buy them expect more.

It’s not just Ford. And it’s not just a domestic thing. But certain domestic brands are selling more and more higher end vehicles. But still geared up with service that worked for low priced vehicles.

I would unplug that shock and see if the noise goes away it will throw a code but may aid in diagnostics.

Also what ever Is humming will be vibrating so get get touchy feely with it lol

Makes sense for your own diagnosis and to know what’s going on. But the warranty repair will ride on what the deal finds and plans to do.

Having upgraded my one and only fuel pump on my Gen 1, I know how the system works.
You have a fuel pressure regulator/sensor at the fuel rail on the engine, a fuel pump driver module by the gas tank and finally the fuel pump it's self.
Now both Livernois and the SVT tech that install my 750 HP fuel pump upgrade said, the PCM will cycle the pump on and off via the fuel pump driver.
This happens quickly you can't notice it, while the engine is running.

You just explained duty cycle I mentioned previously. I think you understand the concept, but the wording can be misleading. The pump never "turns off" in the traditional sense of the phrase, it simply receives a lower duty cycle as commanded by the PCM. I think you may have been implying this. On an oscilloscope, it may appear as if the pump is cycling on/off, but because of the rapid rate at which it cycles it's never considered being "off". I think you were eluding to the same basic principle; if I misinterpreted that than I apologize for the confusion.

Now if they changed the fuel delivery on the Gen 2 that's fine.
In the unfortunate circumstance that something happens to my Gen 1 and need a new truck, I want learn all I can about the Gen 2.

So, are still saying there are two pumps, one in the tank and one up at the engine?
And don't misunderstand me, I'm not starting anything I just want to learn.

Same principle; still uses a FPDM for the low side. The high side pump (High Pressure Fuel Pump/HPFP) takes the low side pressure and ramps it up to a maximum of 2150 PSI for the purpose of Direct Injection.

If you spend some time on the forums dedicated to vehicles in which you describe, you will find the same experiences. Unless you're talking true high end luxury brands (Mercedes, BMW, Porsche) the experience is (unfortunately) very similar.

I service Lexus at the dealer (oil change, etc..). Always get a loaner if I need to leave a car with them for more than an hour, or they always offer a gift card to local shops if I'm okay to wait while they change the oil or rotate tires. Techs are very knowledgeable, my car comes back with full inspection checklist, washed and cleaned. And that's not warranty service, nothing more than an oil change.

Last issue I had is some moisture in the headlight... Lexus replaced both headlights, no questions asked even although opposite headlight was perfect. And these are $2,000/ea headlights, according to invoice. No questions asked, zero cost to me, repairs completed in less than a day.

So yes, when shock or pump is making a noise Ford should honor the repair without giving customer hard time or blaming it on "normal". If that's normal, I wouldn't trust that tech with anything.

There is absolutely no reason to settle for crappy service or accept nonsense runaround.

I came from Toyota, had a Tundra for 10 years. I’ve almost run out of local Ford dealers to take my truck to, the experience has been that bad.

Toyota is light years ahead in service quality and experience.

If the Raptor didn’t exist I’d be back in a Toyota or Lexus no question
