bought a 2014 raptor - fun truck

Back Story

Got around to re-installing the K&N Cold air Intake and AFE throttle body spacer

(re-installing, because I bought truck with them - yet dealership didn't keep them on once i started buying their Service Dept forced them to restore back to factory - I requested the parts and got them - this also included aftermarket exhaust - so I now have New Resinator > muffler - kept new tail-pipes)

Mostly Concerned a loose vacuum line but sounds so metallic vs air whistle

Truck has 62K on it - Do notice some front end slop - Ball Joint / Bushings / Hub - tie rods seem pretty solid. mostly clunks on small bumps.

TLDR - Truck makes a really bad metal to metal sound when turning Right Only

Right turns only above ~15mph and more than ~15-20 degree turn - (faster less turn)

Noise is similar to a brake dust shield scraping something - and haven't ruled that out yet.

doing right turn and backing up ~10mph in circle can replicate -
Hard straight acceleration makes a similar noise and can't tell if its more a suspension issue..

If Air Intake Related - why only right turns and at specific suspension angles?

Suspension - that much noise - almost sounds like I should be able to see fresh metal scrapes and not seeing any.

.......
LOL - Spent all this time and here is the exact sound and reason..

-----

Now just to locate which vacuum line.

Expecting same one that was disconnected & re-connected to air intake - got loose at opposite end
apparently one of the tests is going into 4x4 and noise stops = Vacuum line

otherwise more searching!

Starting to think the IWE Vacuum and possibly the IWE is almost failed on Left Front Driver Side...

will replace the check valve this week - easier to spend the $10-20 than deal with Warranty

Are IWE Eliminators (RCV) something that create more issues than they solve?
(see you can elimiate but what do you do with the existing vacuum connections - shunt?)

check the iwe. It sounds like you may need a new one, you can sometimes skirt replacement by greasing it with a thinner grease. Thick greases tend to make the gear stick in the iwe, and not separate far enough, which sounds like that

Agreed - think you're right IWE pretty noisy
Just purchased both Valve and Solenoid - Over $60 here for those - oh well - had to order check valve - showed in stock - until I went to purchase...;p

Still makes noise even when I engage 4WD - Less but noise still here.

which would mean its not fully engaging / disengaging correct?

and once that "Integrated Wheel End" gets beat up I'm betting its hosed after x-amount of grinding.

I'm also figuring both sides are going bad at this point - but left being so loud not hearing right.

Clunking over small road bumps - have some video and sound of that too -
maybe update that on another suspension thread.
- Expect that would be ball joints?!? (Lower expected, but figure I might go for both upper and lower)

bushings no so much, no clunk on hard stop / start

had it checked out..
On Mine at least was just the Dust Shield turn turns hitting the rotor... slightly..
(did that a few weeks ago - after I bought check valve and solenoid

How about this sound under acceleration..

Sounds like Cold Air Intake Series 77 Screaming...
Not consistent with RPM though which I'm figuring more how far open the Throttle Body is open and taking AIR in through a metal pipe might be sound ...

Can't replicate the sound out of gear - (park and rev engine)
only does it under load.. which makes me suspicious of Vacuum and IWE

Sound is at the worst just before it shifts (which is A Throttle body & Air Intake or Vacuum IWE
However - Put Truck in 4wd High
- No change - same noise is heard under acceleration.

Here is the updated video of the Sound

That's hard to tell what it is.

There's a heat shield on the front cross over exhaust pipe that runs across the tranny from the drivers side.
There have been posts of this breaking loose and rattling, a hose clamp or get it welded is the fix.

B-C, can you tell me more about the heat shield noise, cause, and solution? My 2018 makes a metal-on-metal, or gravel-on-metal noise, it is NOT a gear grinding noise. If I imagine a toothed IWE partially engaged it would be more like a ratcheting sound as teeth try to engage, whereas what I hear on mine is more like a smooth grating sound.

Thanks! -Ron

BTW, the gravel-on-metal noise on my truck is intermittent, not constant, so I'm curious if your dust shield was randomly moving against the rotor. The clearance isn't very large, maybe 1/8"?

Sorry I missed this video above replicated the sound

I usually won't / try not to post anything unless I can try to capture the sound or video of it.

Pulling tires off was able to easily identify the bent dust shields...

Got stuck in sand 1 time before hearing that noise... However within 5min of being stuck, the back end was hit so hard by another driver bed and rear hub axle were damaged - there were other issues that has to be dealt with at that point...

Only a month later when I got it back did I catch the new sound..
