Cooler tie-downs?

Best mod I ever did to the truck in all honesty especially for $70 with 2 bed length and 2 short ones for the sides 4 total. I wouldn't worry about it especially with an aluminum bed. I mean my bed is Line X'd so I figured that was good enough. Not a fan of the D ring bed bolts as you're limited to the tie down points and these can move anywhere. Took like 2 hours to install taking my time to mark, drill, tighten, screw, drink beer, etc.

I'm using D-Rings and 2 Bungee's and has worked OK for me so far...For more bumpy offroad you could just use a Ratchet Tie-Down..

There is a guy on this site that sells them already ground down to fit and painted...could search out the tread...from what I remember he was selling for around $90 for 6....
If he is no longer making these,I purchased a set of 6 from mymoparpart.com
Was the cheapest around for Original Mopar and not cheap knockoffs...they use these in the Sprinter Vans as hold downs... Took me about 30 minutes to grind them down so bolt fits,and then repaint...easy job if you have a good grinder...

I used to bungee mine down also until bombing through some whoops used it as a sling shot and dented the **** out of my bed. It will also flip on on its side that way. I wouldn’t trust that. For camping and what not no problem.

Just ordered a set of the 48” Core Trax. Almost every time I load something into the bed, I grumble to myself about how I need a way to tie down to the bed floor. Was going to break down and do the D rings, but was never really enthusiastic about them as the solution. The Core Trax is just what I was looking for, actually. Looks good. Adjustable. Sits flush. Perfect! Glad I saw this thread.

Me too! I think I'll go with the Core Trax as well. Hell I might add D-rings to the bed bolts too. Couldn't hurt to have more tie downs..

Agreed...thats why I said for offroad,I'd use a Ratchet Strap Down....mine has never moved...but also never have "bombed thru some whoops"..lol..

This may be one of those things you legit kick yourself for not trying before if it didn’t dawn on ya......but I use a ratcheting cargo bar places just behind my undercover swing case toolbox (like 2.5-3’ from edge of bed) to keep stuff from rolling around. I have a heavy duty rubber mat in the bed that’s actually for a treadmill to cushion the impact/sound & keep it from shifting, helps absorb impact from heavy loads & helps keep stuff from sliding around due to the fact it’s a little tacky, I have all those lockable tie down points installed & between those, the cargo bar, the Marc & bungee cords/tie downs no issue w/ a cooler moving.

If you’re trying to keep it in place while also catching air I’d highly recommend the high end adjustable bungee cords sold @ marinas/boat dealers.

On the other hand last time I took truck to the beach I used the cargo bar to sandwich a cooler between bed sides (like placed one end of the bar on the cooler itself agains the bedside) - throw a bungee over the top that shit ain’t moving.

I’ve got a macs tracks setup in the bed that works perfect for my gear including an ARB Elements fridge....EXCEPT for going off-road at speed. Then the fridge either gets put in the back seat or gets left at camp.

Whatever is in the fridge/cooler is going to get bounced around pretty hard. It’ll get bounced harder in the bed than in the truck. Either way its hard on the contents.

Make sure all covers/lids are tight, fill the unit up 100% and add padding/filler inside. Think twice about “should i bring eggs”...

Exactly!

Packing a cooler full of beer and water then mobbing through the desert all day long, taking drinks out at stops and even filling the space with towels will still pop the beers for how much abuse in the bed takes place. How many of you have seen a beer can where the entire outside is gone (looks like bare aluminum) and the beer in the can is half gone but no visible signs of major leaks. Make sure EVERYTHING is secured and solid. Straps stretch, recheck at stops.
