Guys,
I am looking for an offroad park within a few hours of Houston (willing to drive out to Austin area maybe). I don't need it to be crazy as I want to bring my five year old daughter camping and do some light off roading with her maybe some rocks etc, not looking to get the Raptor deep in 3 feet of mud. Any one have any suggestions of a place that would be fun to take the Raptor and my daughter to? I see online General Sams offroad park near Huntsville looks okay, and hidden falls park north of Austin looks real fun.

We brought our kids to Hidden Falls about a year ago and they had a blast. There isn’t any high speed stuff there but the landscape is pretty cool. The park is geared more for jeeps and UTV”s but it’s still a good time. Just stay on the outer loop the first time there and you’ll be good. The people at the front will give you a map and recommend the trails to stay on so you don’t get into any trouble.

I went to Extreme Offroad this weekend. Had a ton of fun, took 6 hours to clean the truck, but worth the fun.

head to texplex in midlothian. No, you cant take your truck any weekend, but they do put on prerunner days once a month.

Not sure if they got the camping going yet, but it is a pretty rad place.

Outside of that, maybe consider heading up to little sahara?

Hey David I’ve also been looking to taking my raptor to some trails, lmk if you’d want to go one weekend and test them out!

If you haven't, you Houston guys should check out Padre Island National Seashore, just South of Corpus Christi. Once you get a few miles down the beach you can open it up. My 14 year old son was hitting 70 mph along the beach for extended periods. You can camp, fish, shoot guns (technically may not be legal to shoot). I forget how far you can go down before hitting a cut, maybe 50-60 miles, just make sure you have a full tank of gas before you go and you'll be fine. No big chance of getting stuck, just air down to 15-20 psi. If you do get stuck just air down to 5.

Sketchy cell phone service, so perfect for getting the kids off the phones.

Hidden Falls is good too. Spent a lot of time out there crawling in jeeps and riding dirt bikes. Took the Raptor once, the ranch roads and Green Loop are fine in the truck. You may get a nick or two in the front skid plate, but nothing more really. Great camping facilities.

Been to Texana Ranch in Blackwell, TX a few times, albeit in a crawler. They have, or used to have, full on desert racing there and some fun runs. I am out of the loop on the place now, but a Raptor would be perfect. I helped pit for a buddy that was racing a VW buggy, Jessie James was there racing his trophy truck, or whatever it is. Pretty cool.

I do plan on hitting Texplex one day. If y'all put something together, post up, we'll try and make it.

I'm heading to Hidden Falls on Thursday to give that place a try. I'll try and post some pics if I remember. Our plan is to tent camp in the improved sites (electricity and water) and hopefully we won't freeze our asses off. The low is predicted to be 34 degrees F. Really looking forward to it and giving the Raptor a little bit of the off-roading it desires.:banana-mario:

I went to hidden falls not long after I bought my truck. It was pretty fun since it was muddy (it had been raining) and my first time off-roading. Theres some pretty nice views and good photo spots, I had a blast but I dont think I'm coming back, I feel like it was more suited for jeeps, atvs, and rock climbing.
Rally ready has some raptor days, and as well does texplex. Texasmotorworks hosts a prerunner day at texplex once a month, and if im not mistaken is just south of dallas. I havent had time to go, but from what i have seen in facebook groups it looks like a blast, and I'll definitely go next time I have the chance

Hidden Falls is a great place to get your toes wet. Little high speed stuff, but it's great to just be out there. Half the fun is watching the jeep retards parade around and get in over their heads, yelling for a spotter. Grab a map at the office and stick to the easier trails. Most of the ranch roads are doable in 2 wheel drive, may have to click in 4wd every once in a while, if you're feeling salty and choose a slightly harder line. If you're camping in the cold, bring plenty of fire wood and whiskey. Take the tires down to 10-15 psi and cruise around in comfort and have a good time, you will not bust a tire bead. They have a big air compressor as you leave, so you can air back up.
Drive up to the area above Loose Rock trail for the best view, sunset is spectacular. You can easily see over 20 miles.
