Single Tire Replacement

The tread depth should be the only indicator needed for warranty/insurance coverage. If they are all below a certain amount they need to be replaced

So, a quick story.

Currently retired, but when active (Police) we had an AWD Explorer as a supervisors patrol car. At about 5k miles, we need a tire replaced as a result of a cut tire. Out shop replaced one tire. After driving a few blocks, the vehicle displayed CEL, ABS light & RSC light. The shop then replaced the other tire on that axle. Same condition returned. After replacing all 4 tires, the truck returned to normal. Keep in mind, our shop didn’t stock the same brand of tire so the tires were mismatched until all 4 were replaced.

As stated about, the tread depth will have a lot of affect on the drivetrain if you use the 4A setting on your transfer case.

Honda specifies 2/32’s difference on an axel and 4/32’s difference between front & rear axles before the computer will intervene.

What he said! AWDs are really picky about tread depth. Always keep a warranty for tire replacement/buy back on vehicles with AWD.

Thanks. That is why it is at the shop.
As their insurance is taken care of this I was told that if I can find any official documentation that two or four tires should be replaced then they will cover it.
I am surprised they asked for documentation. I would think any good insurance company would already have that information. Be careful, sounds to me like they are going for a minimum pay out.

How did you get 48k miles on original tires?!?!!! I’m on my second set now, 20k, 2018.

Insurance paid for one tire and I paid for the other three. I could not find any documentation from Ford. Insurance said they would even replace all four if they had anything showing it was required. Tried three dealerships and called Ford also tried the chat service. No help at all. Had the one tire replaced and within a mile or so had faults showing. Drove back and had three more done. Then no issues.
These were the original K02’s. 36 psi front and 34 rear.
80% street and 20% off-road driving. Off Road is mainly sand and mud.
