If I don't put some type of protectant on them the sidewalls turn brown from the sun and look like shit.

THIS!!! Is this a new thing or getting worse? I've lived in the desert for 11 years and haven't had this issue till this year. Am I losing my mind??? I have owned a variety of dailys, racers, and off-roaders over the last decade and don't remember dealing with this. I'm not a conspiracy kind of person but something is different lately in tire manufacturing. The BFGs on my 19 Raptor almost looked rusty till I cleaned them with 4 different things and finally gave up and put some tire shine on them. Then then Yokos on my work truck are turning brown and I'll be damned if the Michelins on my wife's car aren't browning, too. What the hell??? Oh, and... this spring I bought another set of Nitto 555 DRs for my vette (at least my 10th set since that tire came out) and they are chalky as hell. Never had that before.

Sorry to hijack your thread. If you asked this a year ago I'd say hell no but since every tire I own is rusting I'm kinda on board with it.

And for those of you slinging it all over for gods sake wipe it off a time or 2 after application.

Yea I have been having that issue for years its the main reason I put stuff on them, I not sure the real cause but I always assumed it was the sun, as even the spare on the back of my Wrangler thats not touching the road does this.

It looks like you only read about about half

Stutter much? I read it all genius. My sarcastic post was to point out the "tire care" you recommend whilest washing your truck is only done on the outside tirewall. So the question was, do you also protect in inner sidewall from UV or salt? Do you inspect the inner sidewall when you wash the tires? No. Quit preaching to us about "safety" while you gel up the outer half of your tires.

... but for the love of GOD man, no starch and no hard seams...

I’ve seen BDU’s starched so much they looked sharp lol.

And I’m with you.

The ONLY time any of my trucks sees tire shine is if I’m selling/trading, or if momma wants a night on the town and the 2-door toys won’t do.

It doesn’t help that I equate tire shine with 22” Fuel’s and a Ram 2500 with 9” of life IN THE FRONT ONLY.

I wash my tires on my vehicles.
Occasionally will use a dressing on them.
Nothing wrong with having the new tire look and can’t see that making you a poser.
They get dirty when used and they get cleaned up.
I also wipe my ass after using.
