Seems to me the main quirk with using a launcher other than the stock Phoenix index is that unless you go thru the Phoenix “app drawer” from the launch bar on top, it doesn’t task switch the audio source between sync and the tablet.

example.... sync 3 console is open and you want to go to pandora... going thru the launcher the audio remains on sync and pandora opens and plays but doesn’t produce audio. Go thru the stock Phoenix app drawer and it switches right over. Yes once it is switched the launcher will work for any app, but the minute you go back to the console... and then try to switch to a tablet app... the same thing will happen unless you go thru the Phoenix app drawer.

I’m going to see if Phoenix can perhaps try to engineer this into a software update. I don’t think this is something we can fix. That app drawer from Phoenix must have a hidden routine to switch the audio source in the can box that isn’t obvious on the surface.

Having trouble getting the "OK GOOGLE" to work.

I was able to make the change in the Nova Settings, but where do you check to make sure OK google integration is turned on?

I just tested this out on my unit, and it seems to switch OK.

Tested it by doing the following:

1. closed out all apps running in the background.
2. opened up console - played a local radio station
3. pressed HOME - bottom left tablet screen
4. opened up Pandora - from Nova Launcher home screen

audio switches to Pandora OK.

If I switch back and forth from console audio to Pandora (either through Nova or Phoenix), I noticed Pandora is paused and the radio is still playing, but pressing play in Pandora switches the audio.

I also tried the above steps, but ran Pandora from the Phoenix app list, and that seems to work OK too.

If you want, let me know your software versions and I can cross-check them against what I'm running.

Try this:
- Download the Google Assistant app.
- Open up the app, it should tell you what setting you need to go to make Google the default app. This worked for me, although I don't know if Google will hear you without first opening up a google app. I don't use it very often and haven't tested much.


Unrelated...after getting voice control to work, I decided to pull out the mic with that came with the unit and use that instead of the tablet's mic. Since I have an aftermarket stereo, the center speaker area was unused. If you remove the center speaker itself, the mic will clip on to the edge there, the put the speaker grill back on. Works great for voice control. I'm not sure how it works for bluetooth phone conversations, haven't tried that since I use sync for phone.


Also noticed that the tablet seems to reboot less often when the engine's off now with Nova instead of Index. That's great, but has me a little worried that it's draining the car battery.

Edit: Forgot to add...if you are still using the center speaker, you can probably still mount the mic under the center grill. There are slats in the plastic underneath the grill that only need to widened slightly to fit the mic.

I'm doing basically the same thing. When Nova boots up, I hit the Console button and then the home button to take me to Nova and all is good. When I get time, I'm going to try and automate this process with Tasker or Automate. Below is my current software.

While this is the fix for the issue, I have it too, the issue doesn't happen consistently with me. I don't have to do this every startup, and I have seen the issue happen almost randomly at time. Switching tracks or switching apps seems to trigger the volume off on rare occassions, but not consistent or reproducable at will.

There is a setting, deep within Google that allows you to choose between the voice assistance's that are installed. Phoenix had the setting default to TXZ speech, once that program is deleted, there is not a voice assistance set. I would try melvimbe's method, if that doesn't work, add one of the Google search widgets to a screen. Once added, touch the microphone, this may force the Voice Assistance menu to open and let you choose Google Assistance.

Agreed. My method just tells you where to find the setting in android...and I can't remember where it is.


On another topic, is it possible to get an upgraded can bus without going through Phoenix? I get the impression that the can bus that comes with Phoenix wasn't specifically designed for Phoenix. Did a little Googling and found all sorts of can bus's for various makes and models that are generic for after market radios. I Did't see anything for the 2017-2019 Raptors (or F-150s). If there is one available, and it's reasonably priced, I'd like to check it out.
