Hello, first post here, long time Ford truck owner.

I'm an original owner of a 2004 F150 FX4 SCAB purchased new, and have been toying around the idea of replacing it with a new truck. When I spec out my wants in a Lariat/KR/Platinum I come out to almost $60K...for a few grand more it makes sense to get the raptor mainly because the value retention is amazing.

I use the utility of a truck regularly for home improvement, craigslist furniture runs from the wife, trips to the snow, trips camping, etc, but I don't ever foresee taking a raptor out to the desert or dunes more than 1 or 2 times because I live in the greater Los Angeles area and will not make it a priority to drive hours just to kick up the dirt and put it through its paces.
The raptor will spend most of the time on the pavement, so am I a poser if I buy a raptor? :chewie:

To me, this is like asking if I'm a poser for having an M3 and not constantly tracking it. There is a group of guys on Bimmerpost that will give you that line. ********. Buy what you want because you want it and use it how you want.

^^^^ Absolutely! I’ve never understood people who buy or don’t buy something because of other people’s worthless opinions. I have a Raptor and a Prius sitting next to each other in my driveway. I have a hatchback hot rod in the garage on stands waiting for me to install the built engine. I own Italian and Japanese motorcycles. I drive/ride, maintain and mod them all (well, the Prius is as is). I can tell you for SURE that IDGAF what opinions other people have. YMMV

One of the things I love about daily driving the Raptor in LA is the way it floats over potholes. I have even backed over curbs to get into parking spaces for a better approach angle. I take it in the dirt from time to time, but it's a great urban assault vehicle.

I have a '92 F150 that I use as a work/utility truck. The Raptor is a fun truck. In your shoes, I would keep the '04 (assuming its paid off by now) and use it for those roles, and run the Raptor when you head out camping or otherwise looking to have fun. I bet that if you hit some desert and did a few high speed runs, you'd find a way to do it more than once...

The other thing about the Raptor is how incredible its 4x4 ability really is...I've owned 4-bys my whole life, and none of them is even half what a Raptor is. The only thing I wouldn't do in it is mud-bogging. Everything else, the Raptor is the best there is.

NO, you wouldn't be a poser. Lift kit drivers are posers.

Would you call Porsche 911 owners who don't go to hair clinics poseurs? Do you call Mustang owners who don't crash at Cars & Coffee poseurs?

Buy what you want with your money and enjoy it the way that you want to enjoy it.

Oh and @allinon72 you have nothing on me. I've been known to rinse off my Raptor at the end of the day when it gets too dirty/muddy on ROC runs!

Same is true here in Houston. The city of potholes! My Raptor eats em' up.
