Hi All — hoping someone can help me here. I test drove a MY’19 SCAB with ~35 miles yesterday at a dealership. I went in really wanting to buy this truck (currently have a MY’18 Jeep JLU Rubicon) but when I did a test drive, the ride was super rough. At slow speeds and smooth roads, the transmission would “stutter” almost like the wheels were fighting for traction under heavy load (except that feel was from the transmission). I got in with the sales manager and he agreed something felt off and we jumped into another SCREW — however I still felt the issue (albeit at a smaller scale). After doing some research, I’m seeing that this new 10-speed can be tough for the first 2-5k miles and smooth out. Also, if there are multiple people doing test drives, the transmission could be “confused” as I am sure the test drives are not slow & steady. I pushed the dealership on it and they did not have an answer other than to say they would work with me on a new factory order which did not make me feel super warm or fuzzy either. Last point, I test drove a used MY’17 with ~40k miles about a month ago and did not feel this issue. Any ideas/thoughts? Thanks!

How long was the test drive? The tranny shifts poorly before it warms up, then there's the adaptive learning thing.

Tires probably had 50 psi, take a tire gauge or go to the PSI screen on the dash, most everyone runs under 40, otherwise you get a harsh ride. Raptors ship with too much psi, common occurance.

The 10 speed can take a few dozen (not a few hundred or few thousand) miles to adapt, so initially it can be a little erratic. Also, the default drive mode of ‘normal’ is exceedingly lazy. shift to sport mode on the steering wheel and retry. Also, drive it like a teenager, not an old codger.

I agree with @GCATX about checking tire pressure. You can use the on board menu to check, the TPMS are usually within about 1.5 psi.

Thanks @GCATX & @smurfslayer! Test drive was not super long — maybe 10 minutes. PSI was definitely high — good point there. Tried driving it both like a teenager and a old codger :) I’ll probably just order a MY’20 when open.

I don't know what '20 orders are going to price at but there is very little difference between 19 and 20 (unless you want lead foot grey). You should be able to get a large discount on a 19. Most dealers in the NE are living in 2017 and still asking for ADMs. You should be able to get a 19 for at/under invoice.

I meant how dealers are going to price them... i.e. discounts/ADM versus MSRP.

Specialty truck don't get, factory incentives or dealer incentives, base models you can save 1800, maxed out models go for msrp unless you find a dealer like mullinax in fla, my 19 had every available option but decals, (magnetic) msrp 77k, it sat in the showroom 3 mos, I got it for 2k less and no dealer fees.

Not sure what you are saying. Lots of dealers doing these for invoice now. My guy in Maine is doing them for Invoice less $1k. Hell, I got $3k off MSRP on my 19 in Nov when the production run hadn't even started yet.

I think supply is starting to catch demand and the market is starting to soften. I’m sure dealers will try to do the same thing as the last 3 years and will find not as many buyers will be willing to pay whatever they have to to get one
